Police in Glasgow report a parking meter missing a week ago was discovered cemented into the pavement in Newcastle-upon-Tyne about 160 miles from the original location. The discovery expands the mystery of the stray meter and prompts follow up by authorities.
Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson North held a preview showing Friday night for residents builders and press officials as the grand opening neared. The 18 hole course lights up with torches on greens and a fireworks display by the Banjo Band of Dallas. Wallace Investments plans a master development valued over 75 million dollars with dining room lounge golf shop and pool facilities.
Army Private Thomas E. Smith, 23, completed an eight week communication center specialist course at The Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Ga on August 9. A 1958 Richardson High School graduate and former East Texas State College student, he enlisted last March after working for the Texas Highway Department in Dallas. His wife Linda and parents Mr and Mrs Walter E Smith reside at 428 Apollo Rd.
Mrs. Edson O. Harrison and Jim Forrest each built Appalachian dulcimers after a magazine feature last November. Harrison learns by ear and uses soft tones, while Forrest tunes and plays by listening, both using the instrument for duets and hobby pursuits. The dulcimer’s range and drone strings suit folk singing, with origins linked to British Isles or Appalachian roots.
Belt Line Junior High School registered about 51 new students last week. Seventh grade orientation is Monday for schedule pickup at the office, with eighth grade Thursday and ninth grade Friday at 1 p.m. Registered seventh graders include Coryell Cathy Oma ha and others. eighth graders list Broadhead Lucina and more. ninth graders feature Redden Alexis Kristeen and Russell David Lee among names.
The City Council meets Monday night to discuss revised apartment zoning ordinances after protests over property values near Blue Lake Circle. A public hearing is expected. The Plan Commission recommends a new office buildings zoning for East Main Street block across from City Hall. A Great West Corp change west of Custer Road is likely to be rejected, and bids for Newberry Bridge dam, west side pump station and storage tank, plus Greenville Avenue water and sewer mains will be reviewed.
Albert Davis enters his 13th year as head of Richardson Independent School District maintenance overseeing 58 custodians and a fleet that includes 15 buses with two more on the way, 4 trucks, equipment for grounds and athletic fields, and 1 driver training car among others. The department maintains 17 schools, the administration building, and stadiums.
Police investigated several vandalism and theft cases last week. Allan R. Sloan reported a rear window entry at 830 Belt Line Plaza with fire set in the kitchen. two suspects suspected, leg injury noted, $300 damage. Dr. Charles Stringer reported sprinkler prank and toilet paper in hedges. A 11:30 p.m. break in at William Greiber’s home yielded stolen records. Four 16 year old Richardson youths were arrested for siphoning gasoline. Hub caps stolen in multiple reports. Death of Texas A&M professor Stanley A Wykes ruled natural causes.
Richardson Education Association hosts a week of orientation and schedules at Richardson High School, Beltline Junior High, and the School Administration Building. New teachers report August 27 with a luncheon at First Baptist Church. Students begin September 3 with grade level orientations through August 30.
