Butts Wins Libel Case Over Post
Former Georgia Athletic Director Wallace Butts won a libel suit against The Saturday Evening Post. A 12 jurors awarded $60,000 in general damages and $3,000,000 in punitive damages, alleging the magazine's article accusing him of divulging Georgia secrets to Alabama coach Bear Bryant was false. The judge warned spectators and the Post plans to appeal.

The Richardson Rotary Club heard Edge of the Sound Barrier a special program by American Airlines presented at noon Monday. J. L. Starkweather of Richardson introduced the program and Fred Becker introduced new member George Zimmermann. Zimmermann, a special projects manager for Collins Radio, fills the Rotary classification of Computer System Sales.

Richardson council opens bids and sets hearings on zoning
Richardson City Council opened bids on three projects including the Newberry Bridge dam storage tank and west side pump and sewers along Greenville Avenue, referring all to City Manager R B Sherrill. A pump at South Side station was contracted to Allison and Wylie for 8750 dollars. September 16 hearings were set on Tobin retail zoning near Campbell and Central Expressway and on Gemco Homes duplex zoning at Richardson Terrace North. Agreements were authorized with Santa Fe Railway for water and sewer crossings and with the Richardson School District to build and maintain a lighted baseball diamond at Dover School.
