Richardson school teachers learned today that President Nixon’s wage price freeze would apply to their salaries as well as those of all state and local government employees. Thousands of teachers with contracts for pay increases next term awaited the government’s decision.
Union chiefs resist the administration’s 90 day wage-price-rent freeze plans. AFL CIO leaders press for unified action with UAW and Teamsters against the policy. UAW President Woodcock warns of contract cancellations if the wage freeze extends. Teachers in RISD lose recent cost of living increases and tenure raises during the freeze. Richardson Mayor Noah says the freeze will barely affect city finances.
The Clyde Brothers Circus visits Greenville Avenue Stadium on September 5 with gray tickets for children under eight, yellow tickets for admit one child at 1.50, and blue adult tickets at 3.00. Proceeds support Richardson Civic Foundation projects including the Miss Richardson Pageant and Fourth of July celebrations.
Gov. Preston Smith on Wednesday commissioned a ship into the Texas Navy during ceremonies at an almost completed aquamarine amusement park named Seven Seas. Mayor Tommy Vandergriff invited Smith to return for the grand opening when he could be first to stick his head into the mouth of a two ton killer whale. Smith declined and urged the lieutenant governor to attend.
A Bush Street gathering discusses youth political potential with Countdown '72 leader David Maddox predicting possible impact on Texas and national priorities. Youth voices argue for grassroots organizing despite doubts about unity and turnout as 1972 approaches.
The Richardson Fellowship of Christian Businessmen will host an all community breakfast at Canyon Creek Country Club starting at 7 45 a m on Saturday August 28. Cowboy Coach Tom Landry will be the featured speaker replacing the previously scheduled date.
The City Plan Commission will skip its usual Thursday meeting to hold a work session. City Engineer Glen Lang says the group may reserve one Thursday each month for work sessions and will meet as needed for pressing business while studying city development such as the Master Street Plan.
Richardson Independent School District Superintendent Dr. J. J. Pearce told Optimist Club members that local administrators feel alarm over court actions forcing the consolidation of districts in Texas. He cited Del Rio Marshall Longview and Waco cases and warned of possible broader impacts even as he defended a 13 cent tax hike and outlined budget priorities. Pearce noted district taxes remain below the national average and expressed concern about white flight from Dallas while stressing prudent spending.
Herbert Bobele of Richardson Schools has been named to the Texas Education Agency Division of Instructional Media subcommittee on Telecommunications and Television. The group will study classroom use of TV radio teletype and phone, focusing on software needs and future changes. Richardson's open-channel UHF enrichment TV for elementaries dates a decade, moving to a 4 channel point to point system this August for both elementary and secondary students.

Richardson Community Theatre opens its 1971 1972 season with tryouts for Nine characters male and female. Readings run 6 30 to 8 00 p m Saturday August 21 and 2 30 to 5 00 p m Sunday August 22 at 105 E Main St. The comedy by Peter Ustinov directed by Hal Castle stars open parts with production planned for late September.
Shareholders of First Bank and Trust of Richardson approved a reorganization plan to affiliate with First Southwest Bancorporation Inc. President Kenneth R. Terry announced at a special meeting on August 18. Final approval awaits action by the Federal Reserve and State Banking Board and other regulators.
