A farmer’s gold ring lost 46 years ago was unearthed Tuesday in the garden of a house built on the original site at Minster on the Isle of Sheppey England. The discovery was confirmed by local residents and adds a long awaited artifact to the village’s history.
Marie Sutherland led the Women's division exhibits at Richardson Community Fair with a hound's tooth suit chosen as Best of the Division by judges Billie Myer and Shirley Cunningham. Her daughter Suzanne, 16, won blue for a powder blue wool street dress, while other results list several first places for Ladies Street Dresses and Coats, and a baby blue bikini drew smiles from judges.
The JCA members launch a membership drive with a giant watermelon feast next Thursday at 7 p m at Lake Lavon. High school age young men invited to join community service activities. The event is linked to the Richardson Jaycees and held at the Jaycee cabin on Lake Lavon with driving directions provided.
A record crowd of about 3400 filled the Community Fair opening last night. Highlights included Max Stone’s helicopter touch, a live-horse merry-go-round, and 12 go-go dancers from the Recreation Center. Richardson Civic Theater staged three plays with notable cast members and the Teen Show featured local talent.
City Council appointed committee to study old town parking met at the Chamber of Commerce with Chairman Jerry Owens presiding. The panel, armed with parking ordinances, began assessing site size limits and space requirements. Report due by Oct 1. Members include Billy Keller Neill Pask David Yarborough Morris James and Jack Proctor.
Police and sheriff deputies widened a statewide alert into a focused Belton Temple area manhunt for two inmates who escaped from the Bell county jail. Allen Clark 23 of Midland and Jim mie Lee Bowden 21 of Temple are considered extremely dangerous. Clark faces a 99 year burglary sentence appeal while Bowden is jailed on an assault charge.
Marina Oswald Porter, widow of Lee Harvey Oswald, asked Dallas justice of the peace for a $1,500 peace bond against Kenneth Porter, her husband of three months, who allegedly slapped her and threatened self harm. Porter was jailed briefly after refusing a hearing. bond posted by attorneys freed him.
