Soldier Arrests and Assault Case Reported in Richardson

A Richardson police officer arrested a Garland man, Jack ie Joe Smith, Sunday for being AWOL from Fort Meade, Maryland. Smith, stopped for speeding, showed an Army license and said he had no pass and had been AWOL four months. His vehicle was impounded. Police investigate an aggravated assault from Saturday in which a Richardson woman was lacerated and possibly contused after being followed from a Belt Line Road restaurant to Lawndale Drive and attacked when she refused to talk.
