RHS Students Assist In County Car Safety Drive
Four Richardson students join 75 participants in a Dallas County Youth Council and Sanger Harris Young Texan Board campaign to lock cars. Debbye DiPaolo Lila Swanson Nikki Hale and Glenn Head distribute orange bumper stickers at Terrace Car Wash and Lightning Car Wash with other points at six car washes two J C Penney stores and five Sanger Harris stores in Dallas and Irving. The campaign follows a prior drive last October credited with a 35 percent drop in Dallas car thefts versus October 1964.

Minor Blaze on TI Plant Roof In Texas Instruments Building
A small fire broke out on the roof of the Materials Building at Texas Instruments on Thursday afternoon. TI personnel quickly extinguished the flames after asphalt coating ignited by vented gas, triggering an automatic alarm and temporary rumors of a major explosion.

Eighteen Booths Slated To Line Fair's Midway
The Richardson Community Fair and Exposition will run August 16 20 with at least 18 midway booths sponsored by civic organizations. Wayne Lee organizer notes specific booths including doll rack milk bottle throw balloon shoot hammer sling cork gun and various kid friendly and game booths. Gene Lede of Fort Worth will supply amusement rides for the midway.

Fourteen additional entries announced for the Going Western street parade on August 13. The event, kickoff to the 1966 Community Fair and Exposition, will include Mesquite Jaycees two to three cars, 4-H float, Richardson Fire Department engine, Owens Country Sausage Belgian Hitch, Lee Mobil float, YMCA bus, clowns, cheerleaders, Jaycees prizes float, 12 Republican Men’s Club cars, and various bands. Cash prizes up to 50 dollars for top three floats, judging from Citizens State Bank.

Virginia Rawlins of Richardson joins 29 other college science and physics teachers at a National Science Foundation conference in aerospace and space physics hosted by Colorado State University. The program runs August 1 through August 20 with three one week lecture series on atmosphere structure, high atmosphere probes, and interplanetary space.

RHS Grad Heads to France for Year Abroad
Richardson High School salutatorian Mary Maloney will spend a year in Lille France under the American Field Service exchange program. She leaves August 1 from Dallas for New York and France aboard the Seven Seas with about 300 other students. Mary will attend Sacre Coeur High School in Lille and study languages while living with the Boutry family.

Three Injured In Auto Accidents In Richardson And Plano
A McKinney woman and two Richardson teens suffered minor injuries in two separate crashes Wednesday. Michael Reed 18 drove on Arapaho when a front tire blew at Custer causing a crash with a light pole. Reed and passenger Bob Shoemaker 17 were hospitalized for emergency care.
