Proc's Palaver by Jack Proctor blasts Richardson traffic lights as the worst in the world. He cites Belt Line Expressway and other intersections blinking briefly to ease flow, noting no wrecks then and urging a study to fix illogical change schedules for quicker, safer travel.
Citizens express dissatisfaction with the current light change schedule in Richardson. They say the lights cause frequent delays and frustration, urging officials to review and improve the timing for smoother traffic flow.
Richardson High School Debate Club will present the Senior Library Summer Program Tuesday at 7 30 P M in the Recreation Center. High school students are invited to preview the 1965 66 debate topic with Joe Sharkey as chairman. Grover Hartt and Jack Ayres oppose Alexis Pedden and Roberta Jarboe.
The Junior Citizens of America will hold a two division miniature golf tournament at Larry Omo's Miniature Golf Course on Sunday from 1 p.m. to midnight. Entry costs 50 cents, with proceeds funding a JCA scholarship fund to aid deserving members’ college goals. First through third place receive trophies and golf passes, with support from the Richardson Jaycees.
At a Wednesday police swimming gala in March England Constable David Creek led a plate collection challenge from the pool bottom. A lifeguard rescued him claiming a long submersion. The Jaycee Club of America plans a coffee house and variety show during the five day fair and offers job help to members.
Southwestern Bell plans a major MetroPlan expansion in Dallas County to provide unlimited local calling within the metro area. The project, led by William T. Boothe, would cost about 14.3 million dollars and take 30 months, with new rate schedules to offset removal of interzone charges. Richardson and other communities may participate, and some residents could see lower costs while others face modest rate increases for business lines and private trunks.
Maj Richard Feiden, SMU Cadets commandant, spoke to library juniors about Spain via slides and films. He described Madrid life, La Prada Museum, and bull fighting basics learned during three years living abroad with his wife and two children. The Aug 17 program will feature a space topic and the film Race for Space.
In Evanston Indiana two Rams and two Cowboys were slated to start for the College All-Star team facing the Cleveland Browns. Washington State’s Clarence Williams will start at left cornerback and Ram Fred Brown from Miami will start at right end. The Rams plan to use Brown as a linebacker.
Jaycees report the 1965 Fair Parade will start the Aug 17 21 exposition with 85 plus entries. Marching bands from Richardson and surrounding districts will join drill teams and Miss Texas contenders. Floats from civic clubs and businesses will line the route from Arapaho Shopping Center to Greenville Avenue. Contact Jack Winster or Jim Nolan to enter.
Bonnie Harris reports a news release announcing the formal opening of the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest at Montgomery Ward's new Arapaho Village facility. Ceremonies are planned with attendees including Clemo Clements and noted figures Dennis McCuiston Mary Weston and Al Mitchell. Tom Bentleys head to the Astrodome in Houston for inspections and related publicity efforts.
