Subways Farr's Cafeterias reports record first half 1971 sales and earnings. Six months ended July 3 show revenue of 11.8 million up 16 percent and earnings per share rising to 52 cents from 36 cents a year earlier. New income reached 511,446, up 44 percent.
After a year off the air Richardson Independent School District restarts educational television on Aug 30 using four UHF stations and new equipment. The system includes programs for secondary students for the first time and was chosen by teacher committees to supplement and broaden the district's curriculum.
A Department of the Air Force letter contract worth 20 011 478 dollars was announced by Congressman Graham Purcell. The deal covers continued production of Paveway faster guided bomb kits, praised for improved firepower accuracy in airborne support. John A. Sickel of TI said the contract supports ongoing production, with TI president Mark Shepherd Jr. noting TI’s recent solution enhances accuracy.
Shepherd notes 1965 funding and six month contract, with late 1968 as the year Paveway laser guided bomb became a weapon system. The presidents report says TI had Navy and Marine Corps initial production contracts for missile guidance units and evaluation contracts for laser guided cannon launched projects for Navy and Army surface missiles.
The Richardson Civic Art Society honors top winners Marjorie Widener Gary Weeter and Mary Cranfill Curtis with works displayed at the Richardson Public Library through August. Curtis, a Richardson resident and SMU instructor, has held eight one man shows and studied at Columbia University and the Art Students League.
Collins Radio Company will build a traffic records and criminal justice information system for Iowa. The TRACIS network will provide 24/7 instant queries, linking law enforcement, courts, and state agencies with terminals in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.
The Richardson Daily News moves this weekend to larger quarters at 101 West Main Street a block west of the current site. The newsroom will close Saturday for the move and reopen Monday at 8 a.m. at the new location.
The Business Christian Fellowship of Richardson, a loose coalition of local merchants, has expanded from three founders last summer to about 150 members. Fred Conger Photography’s Fred Conger notes A. D. Curl Bill Bolling and John Hall Brown founded the group, with Ed Turner and George Kemp joining early members. The fellowship meets Fridays at noon for a light lunch at Canyon Creek.

Police seek vandals who sprayed paint inside a house under construction in a new Richardson housing addition, with damage estimated at 330 dollars. Community notes describe a interdenominational fellowship led by Country Club Conger, emphasizing testimonies, no formal officers, and inclusion of at least ten denominations. The group meets at noon with about 15 members and guests weekly and plans a future community breakfast featuring Tom Landry.
