Summer Playgrounds Sponsor Annual Free Style Swim Meet
Children from the Parks and Recreation summer playgrounds gathered at Arapaho Swimming Pool for the annual free style swim meet. In the junior boys division Gary Spence won first with Pat Newby second and Robert Brewer third. Suzanne Dhaene led the midget girls with Marcia Vallee second and Zoe Vannote third. Tommi Ince took first in Pee Wee boys, with Michael Dhaene second and Hoo'd Groom third. Carolyn Lesen led Pee Wee girls with Pam Skiles second and Sally Bevill and Jeanne Dhaene tied for third.

City Council Divides Over Rezoning Adleta Tract
Monday's council meeting featured a heated discussion on rezoning Adleta and Arapaho Drive-In tracts from residential to apartment use. The 4 to 3 vote reopened the issue, with a later 4 to 3 approval to reclassify about 2 3 acres for duplexes and 11 acres for apartments up to 16 units per acre, plus wall stipulations and deadlines.

Serigraph Exhibit by Sister Mary Corita Opens in Richardson
An exhibit of sis serigraphs by Sister Mary Corita of the Immaculate Heart in Los Angeles opens this week in the Founders Building at GRC Richardson. Corita, a pioneer in serigraphy, has works in major museums including the Met and MoMA. The show is directed by the Richardson Civic Art Society and loaned from 2719 Gallery in Dallas.

Six teenage boys were arrested Saturday night for disturbing the peace as Richardson police also detained four others on drunken charges. Over the weekend they investigated four burglaries and two break ins, with one aggravated assault case lifted.

Nine year old Kristi Tenny daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Tenny 432 Lynn Richardson joined the National Model Airplane Championships in Chicago on July 26 at the International Amphitheatre. She flew a self built microfilm glider weighing about 65 thousandths of an ounce advancing from paper stick planes last year to ultra light fragile models. The glider took nearly a month to construct.

University student trapped in tower during Texas shootings
Tommy Jeffries of Richardson narrowly escaped the tower shooting incident at the University of Texas. He left the building as gunfire began, then returned to safety and later called his relatives to report the events. His family name links him to Mr. J. L. Jeffries and Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Hayes.
