Fire Officials Probe Store Room Blaze and Other Small Fires
A major Sunday night fire at the J G Graham residence 1225 Northlake Drive was investigated for cause and damage. Earlier grass and vehicle fires occurred near Renner Road and at Grandview and Fall Creek Drives with minor damage and no injuries. A fireplace blaze at 613 LaSalle was extinguished. Norman Hartung’s vacant home was spared as investigators looked into juveniles' involvement.

Rites Held For Resident's Father In Dallas
Funeral services were held for Richard E. F. Schmid at Restland Memorial Park. Schmid, died Friday and lived at 6423 Lakewood in Dallas. A retired purchasing agent for Continental Emsco, he was born in Los Angeles and served in World War One. He moved to Dallas in 1935 and worked in Canada and Spain from 1957 to 1960. He was past president of the Dallas Purchasing Agents Association and a member of Gaston Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, a daughter in Maryland, three sisters and two grandchildren.

The Richardson City Council named a ten member Youth Action Committee with Jim Triole as chair and Vera M arty as vice chair. The commission, chartered for 90 days, will report at 30 and 60 days and will study the city role in youth issues. The council also swore in new board members and amended Ordinance No. 523-A on negligent collision.

Atkins Receives Honorary Legion of Honor Award
Joseph W. Atkins of 1219 Nantucket Drive is named recipient of the Honorary Legion of Honor, the top award of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay, to be presented at a Rice Hotel investiture during Texas State Conclave in Houston. Atkins chairs the Richardson DeMolay Advisory Board and works for Bethlehem Steel. The Order serves boys 14 to 21, with Texas alone hosting 95 chapters and about 12,300 members.

Burial for F A Mercer Held in Avalon
Funeral services and burial for Frank A Mercer were held at Hughes Cemetery in Avalon, Ellis County. Mercer, a retired VA hospital employee from Muskogee Oklahoma, died in Dallas. He served 37 years as a clinical assistant at the VA hospital and was World War One Army veteran. He resided in Dallas for seven years and is survived by his widow, a brother Arthur Mercer of Temple, and four grandchildren.

In one week there were 27 felony convictions mostly to state prison for two to seven years, plus two 25 dollar bad checks leading to one year jailed.
