Richardson voters turnout exceeded 900 to approve a $7 million bond issue by more than a 2 to 1 margin. Five general obligation propositions funded road and street improvements with the largest request over $3 million. Central fire station opposed a recreation plan by four votes and the new library trailed by three.
Summer band program at Richardson High School begins 8:30 a.m. Monday with five day weeks and morning section rehearsals plus evening full band sessions. About 100 musicians compete for Golden Eagle Band chairs as 30 to 40 percent of new members will train this fall. The band plans a marching performance Aug. 14 in the Richardson Fair Parade and a half time show Aug. 28 at the Cowboys Packers game before about 65,000 spectators.

The Senate unanimously voted to raise the subcommittee budget from 150000 to 175000 for investigations into wire tapping and snooping by federal agents. Subcommittee head Edward V. Long plans hearings on the IRS activities in Florida and nearby states starting in Miami on August 9.
In Austin Texas burglars entered the police station lobby Thursday and removed several coin machines without being noticed. Authorities treat the incident as a theft tied to the principle rather than the crime's size.
The weather bureau forecasts well below normal temperatures in the eastern half for the next 30 days. Above normal rainfall is expected on the Atlantic seaboard and Gulf Coast with drought conditions easing. August should see near to above normal temperatures in the Southeast, while the West trends cooler in the southern plateau and warmer in the Northwest.
