Obituary Mrs Sieba Van Diepen and Local Notes

Hunters Find Banded Pheasants From State Stock

Aluminum leg bands from five banded pheasants killed on opening day have been received by the State Conservation Commission. The bands come from 20,000 two week old chicks raised by cooperating sportsmen groups and released in two counties. Biologists seek survival data and ask hunters to mail bands or band information to 914 Grand Avenue Des Moines.

Sioux County CROP drives aid for world hunger

Sioux County churches unite behind the Iowa CROP drive to fund three truckloads of farm commodities for 300 trains planned to reach war stricken regions. Contributions may be left in local banks or sent to John Hymans Hull Iowa with designation to Catholic Rural Life Church World Service or Lutheran World Relief. Distribution is via established church agencies. no race creed or nationality discrimination. Program trains to begin by mid December, linking with regional CROP efforts.

Mr. and Mrs. John Slykhuis welcomed a daughter born Thursday November 18 at Doornink Hospital Orange City weighing 7 lbs 4 oz named Donna Jean. Ronnie Rensink 16 months is in a Sioux City Hospital with polio and left leg paralysis, first polio case of the year for Boydens.

Storm Rages Through Boyden Leaves Wires Down and Power Out

A major late week storm damaged telephone and light wires in Boyden causing days of communications outage. Power was off from 4 am Friday to 7 pm Friday with crews from across Iowa joining to repair lines. Inspectors say it is the worst Iowa storm here since 1941, with thousands of dollars in wire damage.
