Boyden Hull District Faces Growing School Population

A survey by the Boyden Hull Community School District shows high school enrollment rising from 1961 to 1967 with projected totals between 250 and 270 students. Junior high is slated to peak at 150 in 1964, then level off, while parochial enrollments of about 20 per grade are not included in projections.

New Library Hours Announced for Week

The library will be open Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The schedule lists the public hours for those days and times.

Hull appoints new Town Clerk Albert Valentine Sr

At a May 16 meeting the Hull Iowa Town Council opened and considered clerk applications. After extended discussion Albert Valentine Sr was hired to fill the position and will assume duties within a week. He replaces Van Pykeren who resigned effective May 19.

Hulls Rabbit Fancier Wins Prizes At Show

Timon Roetman of Hull entered his Champagne q Argent buck in a rabbit show with the Iowa State Rabbit Breeders Association at the Sioux City Auditorium. About 280 entries were exhibited. Roetman earned 1sts for Senior Buck, Breed Fur, and Normal Colored Fur. Ken Van Voorst of Rock Valley won Best of Breed in Champagne. Francis Bennet of Sioux City won Best Opposite sex.

Francis Pieschl Named Service Fieldman at Boyden

The Farmers Co operative Elevator at Boyden hires Francis Pieschl as service fieldman, replacing the recently resigned Orland Fara. Pieschl previously worked for Walnut Grove Products Company. Further details will appear in the next issue.

First Church Guild For Christian Service Meeting

The Guild for Christian Service of the First Reformed Church of Hull will meet in the church parlors on Tuesday evening May 24 at 7 45. Hull Town Council Approves Basement Ceiling in Memorial Building

At the last Town Council meeting of Hull it was decided to install a new ceiling in the basement of the Community Memorial Building. The fiber glass panel ceiling aims to improve appearance and material for the project arrived in Hull on Tuesday and Wednesday with workmen starting installation.

Lost Hull High School Class Ring Found After Years

A Hull High School Class of 1923 gold ring engraved A G was found on Arnold's Park beach after about 80 years. It belonged to Alice Gorzeman later Mrs Hyman Wolfswinkel and was traced to her family via Des Moines contact. The ring’s recovery is described as a modern miracle with no exact loss date known.

Silver Tea Marks Mother's Day Program At Christian School Circle

Over 200 attend the Christian School Circle annual Silver Tea and Mother's Day program. Gifts are given to Natalie Brummel the youngest mother and to J Vander Zwaag and J Hubers the oldest mothers, all celebrated their eighty second birthdays in 1960.

Hull Population Rises 13.7 Percent in 1960 Census

Preliminary census figures released by the district supervisor show Hull growing to 1276 residents in 1960 from 1127 in 1950, a gain of 149 or 13.7 percent. Boyden rose to 561 from 541, up 3.7 percent, while Sioux County totals declined slightly to 26163 from 26381. Rock Valley increased to 1663 from 1581, up 5.2 percent.

IPS Urges Hull Manufacturers to List Plant Facilities

Iowa Public Service Company asks Hull area manufacturers to list their production facilities in the Industrial Facilities Register. The compiled data will be electronically tabulated with Northern Natural Gas and advertised nationally to solicit new orders. J. E. Vande Kerk says IPS will provide a list of local suppliers to prospective buyers upon request. Companies with updated equipment are urged to add details.

Dorcas Society Hosts Mother's Day Program

The Dorcas Mission Society of St. John Lutheran Church hosted a Mother's Day program on May 11 attended by members and guests. The event featured a Bible study on Mark, a slide lecture on India missions, and a skit titled The World Our Mission Field. Corsages went to the oldest and youngest mothers, with a free will offering for India Missions.

The Busy Bees 4-H Club met Saturday at the Boyden Legion Hall with 13 members and 3 visitors. Ellen Ver Meer led with talks on clothes care and good posture, Deloris Gordon spoke on shoes, and Linda Moret on posture. Ellen Ver Meer won first in Better Groomed Girls with Sharlyn Freese as alternate.

Mrs Reimers and Granddaughters In County Car Crash

Mrs Wm Reimers and her granddaughters Carol and Betty were in a Saturday gravel road crash south east of town near the Standard Oil Station. Mrs Reimers sustained cuts bruises and shock while the car a new 1960 Ford was badly damaged. Betty had no injuries and all are reported to be recovering.

Lincoln Merry Maidens May Mothers Day Meeting

The Lincoln Merry Maidens met May 5 at the home of Mrs. Ed Scholten and Betty Klay with seven members and two leaders. The 4 H pledge opened the meeting followed by talks on Good Manners Are Important and how to insert a zipper in a dress. The group voted to donate 3.00 to Farm Youth Exchange and planned a May 22 visit to the Christian Reformed Church. Lunch was provided by the hosts. Reporter Janyce Vander Berg.
