Mrs William VerHoef Rites Held at Bilgerton Reformed Church

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Mrs William VerHoef at the Reformed Church in Bilgerton Min. Family Flee Home As Fire Destroys Farm House

Early Sunday a fire of unknown origin near Boyden damaged the Earnest Egdorf farm home. Hull and Boyden fire departments fought the blaze for nearly three hours, with flames seen from the basement. The interior was badly damaged, the family including a baby fled, and firefighters and locals worked to prevent a total loss.

Central Nursing Committee Elects Officers and Plans Program

The Sioux County Central Nursing Committee elected officers for the coming year: Mrs. E. Dunkelberg, chairman. Chas. H. Tye, vice-chairman. Dr. W. R. Meier, secretary. Planned programs include preschool health exams in August, a county tuberculosis case-finding drive with an X ray conference in Sioux Center August 24, 1939, and a countywide smallpox and diphtheria immunization and Schick testing program in November 1939. A survey by PTA, American Legion Auxiliaries, Woman's Clubs, and Nursing Committees noted 82 percent vaccination against diphtheria and 72 percent smallpox immunization in Sioux County, with authorities urging at least 70 percent schoolchildren and 80 percent preschool children immunized to prevent epidemics.
