The Matlock Independent School District board in Grant Township Sioux County Iowa will meet July 28 1939 at 8 00 P M at the Matlock School House. Taxpayers may speak for or against the proposed expenditures estimate at that session.
The Sioux County Board of Supervisors reduced the Road Levy to 25000 during Tuesday’s meeting. The cut applies to the 1940 Budget Estimate for Sioux County.
The Meyns have second coat white painted by Alton contractors Lucas and Mulder. A new corncrib is built on the Rosenboom farm with John Miller and Rusty Dickevers at work. Several families and individuals visited relatives in Fertile, Hull, and nearby areas last week, including church matters by Rev. Van Dyke in Boyden.
Nationally known acrobatic flyers will perform at the Iowa Great State Show at Sheldon on August 20 and 21. Performers include Capt Art Davis from East Lansing and Leonard R. The sale was via Ralph Kooikes of Hull. Eisther Landhuis visits relatives at Lreton. The Women s Missionary Society of the A P Church held the annual picnic and program Wednesday afternoon July 12 at Mrs Joe Horn s home.
The Famous Players led by Geo D Sweet bring vaudeville and drama to Sheldon in a waterproof tent theatre for seven days starting Monday July 17 under Lodge 367. Opening night features When Crook Meets Crook with the Famous Players Quartette and a mix of performers. Family suitable shows and 10 and 35 cent admissions with 2-for-1 deal on opening night.
The district No. One Christian Endeavor Union will close advance registrations for the 1939 Iowa Christian Endeavor Convention to be held in Orange City early in October. Albert Ossenfort 26 pleaded guilty to larceny of poultry and was sentenced by Judge Thomas of Primghar to not more than five years in Anamosa. His wife received an unsuspended one year in county jail, then paroled to her father as the case listed 200 stolen chickens since April.
