The Sioux County Farm Bureau will sponsor a county wide horseshoe contest at the Youth Fair in August. Two divisions Senior and Junior allow boys up to 18. No entry fee. send name address and age to the Farm Bureau office in Orange City. Winners receive traveling trophies and must defend or keep them with three consecutive wins.

Five Misses Nelva Moret Paula Zimmer Sandra Verrips Sherry Smit and Harriet Landhuis were chosen by a four member committee to attend Sioux County Night at Loos Park Sioux City on July 11 to represent Boyden in the Sioux County Baseball Queen Contest. The event opens at 7 30 with a game between the Soos and Pueblo at 8 00 then county finalists compete for Miss Siouxland Baseball Queen.

Fourth of July Picnic at Horn Farm
A Fourth of July picnic was held at the farm home of Mr and Mrs Herbert Horn. Twenty eight families attended. Men enjoyed a trap shoot in the morning followed by a picnic dinner at noon and a ball game. Women shared a social time and prepared the noon meal.

Appoint New Chemistry Professor at N W College
Harold E Hammerstrom has been named chemistry professor at Northwestern College Orange City replacing Cornelius Weber who left for a graduate fellowship at Iowa State College. Hammerstrom, a BS from General Beadle State Teachers College and MA from the University of South Dakota, has done graduate work toward a PhD at Iowa State and USD. He recently received a National Science Foundation fellowship for summer study at Vermilion South Dakota. He served in the U S Army in Japan and worked as a petroleum tester for the SD State Chemistry Laboratory. In the last three years he was principal and science instructor at Linn Grove Iowa. The Hammerstroms have four children. The full Northwestern College teaching staff is now complete for 1957 58.

Young Sioux Center Woman Dies In Auto Crash
A 21 year old Sioux Center woman, Hermina Kruid Vande Kamp, died after a car driven by her husband left Highway 75 north of Sioux Center. The car hit a waterway and veered into a ditch striking a telephone pole. the driver was unhurt. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Charles Vande Kamp at Van der Ploeg Funeral Home and Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She was the daughter of James and (maiden name) Kruid of Hawarden.

New Equipment Installed At Local Bowling Alley
The Boyden American Legion bought semi automatic pin setting machines for the bowling alley easing work for pin boys when the season starts the latter part of August. A motor driven rack system will drop and rise automatically after a pull of a string. Bill Fields the manager demonstrates the new gear. Masking units will be added to improve the alley appearance. The Legion has leased the cafe and alley to Vernon Keil of Orange City who takes possession August 1. The Boyden Bowling Association runs three men’s leagues and one women’s league totaling 32 teams about 200 players. inquiries for regular league play should go to the proprietor in early August.

Government price support for barley oats and flaxseed in Sioux County for 1957 has been announced by J B Draager chairman of the county ASC committee. Oats 56 cents per bushel barley 98 cents flaxseed 2 94 per bushel. County rates for rye not yet advised but expected lower than 1956. County rates for corn and soybeans not fixed yet but lower than 1956 sets. Applications filed at the county ASC office with quality requirements. Sorghum price support set at 1 75 per cwt, 8 cents less than last year.
