Goodwill Industries turns discarded shoes furniture and clothing into wages for disabled workers. A January 9 truck pickup in Boyden invites donations but lists several ineligible items. The piece frames vocational rehabilitation as essential to independence and national welfare.

Norman W. Bell confirms purchase of multiple northwest Iowa papers including the Boyden Reporter from the Vanderburgs. Mrs. Helen Vanderburg retains residence and GOP committee role in Boyden while her husband Willis Vanderburg and Bell say they sold the Vanderburg papers after buying Shell Rock News last summer.
Effective January 1 1948 county AAA offices set new hours from 8 am to noon and 5 pm Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Offices will remain closed Saturdays aligning with county office practices.
