Toys Drive Aims For Fifteen Million This Year

Last year three million toys were donated by American children to CARE for distribution to war torn Europe. This year the goal is fifteen million toys to reach children in Europe the Philippines and Puerto Rico. Only good used toys accepted no broken fragile items. Attach a signed greeting to each toy to show friends in America and bring items to J and J Store or Tony's Store by Saturday January 13.

Christmas Dinner Guests Around Sheldon Hull and Orange City

Christmas dinners were hosted at multiple homes. The Kimmel residence in Sheldon welcomed Mr and Mrs Lawrence Haze and son with Mrs Verna Mlaz gar. In Hull, Mr and Mrs Richard Oosten ink and family joined their mother Mrs Marie Burgraaff. Orange City hosts were Mr and Mrs Bill Rens and family at the Bert Engelsman home.

Tripsters Attend Fifth Sigma Pi Sigma Convention

Four Morningsiders plan to skip Christmas to attend the fifth National convention of Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honorary. Delegation includes Don Pilgrim Roger Rohlfs Don Strandburgh and Roy Beauchene. They visit Oak Ridge Tennessee December 27 to hear lectures on atomic energy and view an atomic reactor before the Berea Kentucky meeting opens the next day with Dr Elmer Hutchisson presiding.

Santa Claus Day Draws Large Crowd in Boyden

Santa Claus visited Boyden on Saturday attracting a capacity crowd at the town hall. A long line of cars formed as residents told Santa their Christmas wishes and collected candy sacks. The event was sponsored by the Boyden Women’s Club.

Henry Rhode Purchases Moret Home at $5500

Henry Rhode was the high bidder at the Moret sale last Saturday, buying the home for 5500. With unsettled conditions current, it is believed farm home values have fallen as many farmers stay on their farms while their sons serve in the armed forces.

A farewell surprise was held at the John Vermeer home Tuesday evening for Edgar Vermeer who leaves for service January 9. Attendees included the De Wild and Sietsra families, the Tuininga and Scholten households, G Scholten, R Wielinga, and Casey Smit with a self invited lunch.

Harvey Klein Shot In Arm Accidentously While Rabbit Shooting

Harvey Klein son of Mr and Mrs John Klein narrowly escaped serious injury Saturday when a gun fired during a rabbit hunt at the Jake Doorenbos farm. The bullet struck his left arm between elbow and shoulder causing only a small wound. Edwin Den Herder Ivan Doorenbos and Harvey were present and Edwin and Harvey walked to town where he was taken to Hull Hospital for treatment.

Christmas Dinner Guests Gather Across Local Homes

Power of God film to be shown in Sheldon

The Christian film the Power of God will be shown at the Sheldon Community Building Saturday December 80 1950 at 8 00 pm under the Christian Endeavor Society of Bethel Reformed Church. The film tells how Christianity impacts individuals with true to life stories and is produced by the Missouri Lutheran Church. An offering will be received to cover expenses with no admission charge.

Boyden Boy Wins Shoe Drive Contest With 670 Pairs

Nine year old Joel Kuiper wins Bell shoe store contest by collecting 670 old shoes. The campaign drew help from Boyden residents and towns as far as Waterloo, with over 2000 total entries. Shoes go to Goodwill Industries for charity.
