Mrs. I. B. Hunt of Lime Ridge Wisconsin faced gall stones and worsening stomach trouble and jaundice. A doctor warned there was only one chance to save her life through an operation. At the bride’s father home in Boyden area Miss Myrtle R. Dav married Sherman F. Elwood of Emmetsburg. Rev J M Acheson officiated a small ceremony at 4 p m on Christmas day. The couple will reside in Emmetsburg. guests praised a fine wedding supper and gifts.
The United Presbyterian Church hosted a bright Christmas Eve program with a well lit tree near the southwest corner and an alcove filled with candy, popcorn, and nuts. Mrs. Robertson and the decorating committee organized simple, pleasing decor while Mr Kuyper and his family sang. An optional 10 cent offering raised over $8 to defray expenses. The Holland church also held Christmas exercises with a handsome wax taper lit tree.
The church was decorated with paper chains and a large audience enjoyed a well rendered program. Afterward bon bon boxes with candies and nuts were given to Sabbath school children and sacks of candy and nuts to all youths. An offering was collected to cover expenses.
The Illinois Central Railroad issues a new illustrated folder titled Hammond Louisiana as a Winter Resort detailing winter attractions in and around Hammond. Free copies available on request. The climate artesian waters and hotel accommodations are praised, aiming at attracting Northern travelers to a southern resort with moderate rates.
