In a close high school basketball clash Boyden Bombers beat Maurice 42 to 41 after leading by 10 at halftime and a 16 point edge earlier. Larry Morcet scored 17 before fouling out and D Door enbof led Boyden with 5. Maurice second team won 35 to 10.

Farewell for Mr and Mrs Edward Hausmann at St John’s

The Sunday School staff of St John’s Lutheran Church hosted a farewell for Mr and Mrs Edward Hausmann and their family on Sunday evening at the school parlors. The Hausmanns plan to move to a farm in Minnesota. Guests shared a social evening, presented a fine farewell gift, and refreshments were served.

Top Notchers Award Banquet For Wm Vande Hoef

Mr and Mrs Wm Vande Hoef of Sheldon were guests of honor at a Monday night Top Notchers banquet by Archer Petroleum Corp of Omaha at Speelmans Steak House Cherokee. Vande Hoef received a certificate of award from Don Streit of Sheldon Northwest Iowa District manager. About sixty guests attended including Omaha officials Gerrit Slothouber and wife.

Boyden Forms New Commercial Club Officers and Plans

The Boyden Commercial Club organized at the Legion Building with Ray Smit presiding. New officers are Paul M. Vande Hoef president Ray Smit vice president and Wendell Rensink secretary treasurer. Dues are ten dollars for members five for associates. A noon monthly meeting will feature Legion staff dinners at one dollar. The club aims to aid the Women’s Club candy drive and to fund past bills while planning prizes for a December 21 event.

American Legion Auxiliary Christmas Party Set

The American Legion Auxiliary invites members to the annual Christmas party at the Legion Building on Monday evening December 16. Members should bring grocery donations or cash for community Christmas boxes, with contributions accepted via Mrs Ed Baartman before December 18 if unavailable. A gift for Cherokee veterans and a $1 grab bag gift are also requested. Hostesses include Mrs John Sitter Mrs Gertrude Vanden Brink Mrs Milton Mackie and Mrs Larry Salmon.

The Standard Service bowling team of the Women’s League held a Christmas party at John Bernisse’s home on Thursday evening with hostess assist by Mrs. Dick Beukelman. Verdel LeRoy Van Briesen was arrested by Marshall Van Diepen for impaired control of a vehicle causing damage to a parked car. Mayor Slothouber fined him seven dollars including court costs.

Word from Boyden says Santa Claus will be at the Farmers Co-op Lumber Co. between 3 and 4 pm on Saturday December 21. He will give treats to children and speak with them as in prior years confirming his planned visit despite rising costs.

Christmas Program at School Auditorium Friday

Community members are invited to the grade school Christmas program at the school auditorium Friday evening December 13 at 8 o clock. The program The First Christmas retells Luke 2 1 8 and Matthew 2 1 1 through carols sung by a 160 child chorus. Children wear white capes with large red bows.

Boyden Post Office Extends Saturday Hours for Christmas

The Boyden Post Office will extend service on the next two Saturdays December 14 and 21 to handle heavy mailing during the Christmas season. Hours remain 8:30 to 12:30 and 1:00 to 6:00 on all other days, with rural carriers distributing helpful mail forms and labels. Patrons are urged to use proper postage and addressing to avoid waste, sending greetings first class if unsure of an address and using two or three cent stamps as needed.
