Motorists in Sioux county have begun paying their 1926 auto dues. Cars display maroon and white numbers with serial number 86 for the year. December 31st is the deadline. those who pay after January 1st incur a $1 per month penalty. License rates are reportedly lower due to the 2 cent gas tax. Also note an adjacent sale notice: For sale chicken houses by Nick Drenth of Boyden, Iowa.
A E Miller quits farming and plans a closing out sale on his farm one mile west of Boyden on Tuesday December 22. Sale items include three horses purebred Holstein cattle hogs chickens and a full line of farm machinery. Also a chicken hatchery planned in Boyden in February. Harriett Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Smith underwent appendicitis surgery at Cram hospital and is recovering.
Twenty head of horses owned by Paul Schelling of Conrad Montana sold at public auction at the local stock yards. Total brought $1402.50 with an average of $70 each. Sale managed by C De Valois Sr. A large crowd attended. Some horses sold for over $100.
Sioux County Red Cross chapter held its annual meeting in the American Reformed church with representatives from nearly every town. Officers were re elected and financials showed a county balance of 12936.48 and Rock Valley branch 10907.34 as of June 1 1925.
The W C T U will meet Friday afternoon December 11 at 2 30 at the home of Miss Clara Dean. Works for the Benedict Home include clothing for babies bedding kitchen aprons bungalow aprons coats and dresses to be remodeled. Attend this meeting. Winant Vos, injured in a gas engine accident last week, is improving at Mauris Hospital in Hull and hopes to continue improving toward full recovery.
Mr and Mrs Fred Belling of Sheldon celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at home on December 9. Friends called from two to five to offer congratulations. Frederick Belling born April 21 1862 in Goblenz Prussia and Caroline Hannawalker born January 17 1854 in Hanover Germany. They married December 9 1875 in Hamp ton Rock Island Illinois then moved to Sioux County Iowa in 1882 and settled on land before relocating to Sheldon thirteen years ago. Children: Emma Stutzman Lena Conner Andrew Henry Mathilda Beckman Marie Wright.
