Farmers Use More CCA Supplies Through Co op Network

Walter Dickevers of the Farmers Coop says farmers rely increasingly on farm supplies from farmer owned regional cooperatives and associations like CCA. CCA moved 3.28 million in Iowa farm purchases in six months and total 24.52 million across nine states, with 75 000 Iowa farmers holding local co op ownership and a Des Moines branch plus Eagle Grove fertilizer plant.

Women's Clubs Meet At Rock Valley in Sioux County

The Twentieth Annual Convention of the Federated Clubs of Sioux County was held at the Methodist Church in Rock Valley on Thursday April 22. Delegates and visitors from nine clubs attended with 28 from Rock Valley and other small groups. Dr. James J. Davies of Fort Dodge delivered an inside view of Europe and the fall of Germany, drawing praise from attendees. The day featured registrations, music, pledges, speeches, and reports from the nine member clubs.

The Girl Scouts met April 21 at Mrs Ed Dickevers home with their leader. They planted seeds in decorated cans and held a spelling bee won by Mary Dale with Marilyn as runner up. A skating party on April 16 at Shel don included a train ride to Ray's Bowling Alley and late return with parents picking up scouts.

Meat Market Foot Race Draws Boyden Crowd

The main street in Boyden hosted a foot race between Glenn Doorenbos and Donald Danick amid a warm crowd. Two runners collected extra money before the start, and Ray Smit helped measure the purse as photographers aimed to capture the finish. Glenn Doorenbos won the race as spectators counted a $4.77 hat haul.

The Girl Scouts announce a white elephant sale in Town Hall on Saturday May 8. People may bring items to the Hall in the forenoon for sale and the Scouts will collect articles and donations if notified. Baked goods will also be sold in the afternoon.

The Legion Drive for the Legion Home reports strong early success with many units yet to contact all listed donors. Contributions can be left at the bank or given to Legion members. The goal was 6000 dollars, and excess funds will support furnishing a home for those in need.
