Attendance Recovers as Scarlet Fever Subsides at Boyden School

Boyden school reports attendance returning to normal after a scarlet fever outbreak. Lower grades recover most absentees with no new cases. Senior class plans a Friday 8 PM performance of The Girls Take Over in the high school auditorium.

Church Aid Plans Box Packing For Military Members

Members of the U P Ladies Aid will pack boxes for church members in military service next Thursday at the parsonage. Each member brings cookies or canned goods. The Boyden Hardware Store suffered a fire Tuesday evening at about 7 30 with damage to stock from smoke and water. Insurance likely to cover losses. Grace Bruns was informed her husband was promoted to sergeant and stationed in India.

Vanden Brink Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary at Home

Mr and Mrs S G Vanden Brink quietly marked their 25th anniversary at home Monday with relatives. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs Harry Beldt Matlock Mr and Mrs Al Rouwenhorst Sheldon and Mrs W Rouwenhorst and daughter Cynthia Langmeyer Hospers. Friday evening the couple were surprised when members of the Boyden United Presbyterian Missionary Society and their husbands paid a social visit.

Mrs Henry Auberg and her son Richard visited the George Gaugert home at Herron Lake Minnesota. Word reached Mrs Wm Meyn that Jake Van Leeuwen had a major abdominal operation at St Marys Hospital Rochester Minnesota on April 11. His room number is 450 for mail.

Mrs Melvin Harman Rites For 34 Year Old Farm Resident

Mrs. Melvin Harman nee Henrietta Van Veldhuizen died Sunday April 16 at Home hospital Slayton Minnesota aged 34 years seven months 23 days. She leaves husband and three sons Rodney Roger nine year old twins and Darald four. Le Roy preceded her in death February 13 1942. Surviving relatives include her parents Henry J. Van Veldhuizen and Frances Kleinheselink of Boyden. three sisters Janet Gerrit Aalberts Orange City Elizabeth Van Velzen Boyden Minnie Dethmers Boyden. brothers Jake Sioux Falls Henry in Italy. Funeral April 18 at home then Lake Wilson Methodist church officiated by Pastor Moritz. Interment Lake Wilson little cemetery. Local attendees listed from Boyden Orange City Sheldon and nearby towns.

Sunday School Convention at First Reformed Church

Sioux County Sunday School Convention set for April 27 1944 at Middleburg Iowa with afternoon sessions including worship training group conferences and a business meeting. Dr Kermit Myers captain in the Army will take over the Sheldon practice after the war and not resume until then.
