Council Proceedings Boyden Iowa April 4 1938 Meeting

City council met in clerk’s office with Mayor presiding. Appointments included Joe Kuyper as General Utility Man and Marshall, Dr Balkema as health physician, weed commissioner R Smit, and various committee assignments. Treasurer bond renewed, insurance policy renewed, March 1938 finances reported, bills approved, and Clerk salary set. Ralph Smit qualified for office April 7, 1988.

Dykstra Announces Candidacy for Fourth District Supervisor

John H. Dykstra, Republican candidate for Fourth District supervisor, seeks votes in Sheridan Grant Capel Lynn townships and Boyder. Woman’s Missionary Society met at Jackson Hotel. Mabel Janssen and Gertrude Brink attended Rural Teacher’s Institute in Genesee City.

Town Council Holds April Meeting in Clerk’s Office

The New Town Council met Monday April 4 1938 in the clerk’s office at noon with Mayor Paul T McCrum and councilmen Bergman Maris Dykstra and Vander Haar present. Smit was absent. The mayor’s bond for 500 dollars was approved and S G Vanden Brink was named clerk for two years. Farmers Savings Bank Boyden Iowa was named town depository. Monthly meetings set for the first Monday at 7 30 PM and adjournment noted.

Senators urged to oppose oleo margarine amendments

The letter urges constituents to contact their senator and congressman to oppose amendments allowing government departments to buy and serve oleomargarine. It notes two new proposals at stake: St Elizabeths Hospital in Washington and War department general appropriation. House already opposed by 289 to 15 vote. Also notes a Good Friday service in Boyden at 8 pm April 15.

Easter Choir and Mission Offering at United Presbyterian

On next Sabbath the United Presbyterian church choir will perform Easter songs and the pastor will deliver an Easter message. Easter offering envelopes have been distributed to support missions. Those not using weekly offerings are invited to participate through the envelopes to aid the Missionary budget.
