Dyer Worries Over Grodzicki Munger As Cardinals Seek Pitching

Eddie Dyer, manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, worries about pitchers Johnny Grodzicki and George Munger. Grodzicki, from Nanticoke, Pa., past paratrooper, heals from a shrapnel wound in his right leg while Munger, serving in the Pacific, may return as a top Cardinal hurler. Dyer recalls Grodzicki as a standout minor leaguer with potential for 25 to 28 wins. Munger posted 11–3 in 1944 and could anchor a strong rotation. The piece also notes servicemen returning to bolster pennant races and predicts hitters will dominate despite improved pitching, with Latin American growth highlighted by Dodger owner Larry MacPhail.
