George Mills announced ordered machines for a new laundry and a building site west of the Corner Store. The Times welcomes the Mills venture. The Board of Education voted to discontinue perfect attendance and spelling certificates due to fairness concerns and illness protection.
Ed Zweifel of Titonka died after a heart attack while working on his farm west of Titonka Monday evening. He was the brother of Rom Hefty and uncle to Clarence Hefty, Lewis Heifner, and Mrs James Nesbit. Services were held Thursday morning at Titonka and at Algona with Bake Funeral Home in charge.
The Rev L B Mitchell pastor leads Sunday School at 9:30 am and Morning Worship. Communion Service follows. Thursday evening 9 pm prayer meeting with Judy French and Phillip Hefty in charge. Fall Youth Fellowship rally begins at 2 pm with registration at 7 pm, guests urged to attend. All church members invited for WSWS Guest Day October 5.
Lake Lutheran Church lists a Sunday School Institute at Pocahontas at 2 30 p m with Pastor Rev Norman V Johnson. Other items include EMU General Committee meeting Monday at 8 p m and various confirmation classes Saturday morning.
The Rev. B. L. McDonald presides at Sunday School 9 43 AM and Worship Service 11 00 AM with World-Wide Communion. The Rebekah Circle of the W 3 C 8 will supervise nursery care during services starting this Sunday. Monday at 7 PM MYF meets.

The Renwick Commercial Club met with 19 members to review minutes and the financial report. They approved duties for the executive branch, discussed a Christmas drawing, and planned prizes for the top three home decorations while exempting business firms from competition. The money collected for children’s treatment was used for Easter egg hunt and summer recreation programs. The drawings will mirror last year and the meeting adjourned.
Knute Apland 77 longtime Hardy resident will be buried after services Friday at 10:30 am in Hardy Methodist Church with Rev BOL McDonald officiating. Theake Funeral Home of Renwick in charge. Survivors include a brother Thomas Upland of New York and sisters Anna Exeland of Cedar Rapids and Madeline Trotter of Goldfield plus numerous nieces and nephews.
The annual reception for Boone Valley teachers will take place Tuesday evening October 4 at 9 sponsored by local churches. Parents are welcome. Sunday School Institute attendees included Mrs Lewis Johnson Mrs Kenneth Toresdahl Mrs Lawrence Mandsager Mrs Jay Olson Martin Mandsager Darlene Jacobsen Juna Johnson and Mr and Mrs Melvin Mandsager. Wartburg student Robert Kraft spent the rest in Carl Kraft Sr. and Terry Carlson celebrated his ninth birthday with playmates. Wes Carlson family hosted overnight guests in Lakeview and Mrs Eldon Carlson hosted weekend visitors. George Bell and Ernest Pergande hosted others for supper and conversation. Timmy Carlson fractured his right wrist after falling from bleachers at the football end. Further visits included Mr and Mrs Duane Wilehusen and family and Mrs Minute Peters hosting guests.
Mary Weyer daughter of Elizabeth King aged 30 years 10 months 1888 when she died after a stroke at the Simson Nuts Humbout on Sept 1 She married James Herbert Weyer and lived near Hardy Humboldt Renwick before moving to Renwick in 1936 She died January of this year in Humbolt nursing home Survived by four daughters two sons a sister and many grandchildren great grandchildren great great grandchildren and other relatives Funeral services were held Friday Sept 23 at 2 pm at the Renwick Methodist Church Rev Beaty L McDonald officiating Burial Vernon Cemetery
Humboldt County teachers gathered for a twin rivers education meeting with the Humboldt group presenting a skit based on the National Education Association code of ethics. C M Gillespie reported on the Los Angeles convention, committees formed, and a pension revision discussed. The next meeting is set for Renwick on October 17 with candidates for county representative attending. Nearby social notes include church and family visits in Indianola Eagle Grove Rowan Des Moines and Knoxville communities.
