Editorial greets new students after initiation tests and urges a strong start in academics extra curriculars and citizenship. It emphasizes making a mark through records, activities, and good conduct and expresses confidence in the freshmen to build an outstanding class.
Third graders made safety posters and sent them to Miss Koppen's first grade. They also did crayon etching an underwater scene and baked bread in health class. Pamela Peterson celebrated her birthday with treats for the class.
Seventh and eighth graders excel in arithmetic with fractions while eighth graders debate topics in history. Seventh graders study how people worldwide depend on nature for livelihoods and note class officer elections led by Beverly Hoveland and others. Perfect papers listed for both grades. football drills ongoing.
Boone Valley High School adds four new students this year. Jolene Marie Gregory joins from Algona Iowa and serves as sophomore class secretary while trying out for Girls Glee Club. Jim A Harris from Steamboat Rock Iowa plans to play basketball. Sharon Kay Riley from Humboldt Iowa also tries out for Girls Glee Club. Judy Gregory from Algona joins the junior class and hopes to join Girls Glee Club and consider basketball this fall.
Second graders read a health unit Growing All The Time and discuss how good food outdoor play sleep and rest aid growth. Dennis Anderson rewired his dental card. helpers include Erase blackboards Toni Hooton care for plants Mary Stevenson chairs Norman Marty library books Roy Fibikar pass out straws Larry Anderson and pass out crackers.
In social studies the class writes reports on world explorers and will place them in individual booklets. Eddie Steil and Judith Odland observed their birthday last week by bringing treats for the class. Outdoor sketching was done as an art project followed by transferring sketches to paper and color. The pictures will be mounted and displayed in their room.

The Boone Valley Community School has purchased lockers for student use. Lockers, about six feet high, are tin with two internal sections and a top shelf for books and a bottom area with three hooks for wraps. Each locker is shared by two students and issued on Thursday, September 19, with combination locks to deter intruders.
The first grade celebrated Rose Nelson and Janelle Tate turning six with candy for classmates. They practiced safety by dramatizing safe street crossing and bus riding as part of a unit. The class thanks third graders for safety posters they provided.
In the sixth grade class, twenty one students are in the Junior Band this year. Darlene McCurry celebrated a birthday and shared treats. Penny Bacasier was absent due to illness. New arithmetic books arrived and will be used. The class had 29 perfect spelling papers last Friday in a class of 32. Gloria Kubly brought flowers and a plant for the room. Mrs George Hoffman visited Wednesday. Students had height weight and eye checks and compared results with last year.
Boone Valley graduates populate nine Iowa communities Renwick Eagle Grove Fort Dodge Sioux City Humboldt Algona Grinnell Thor and Hardy. Six alumni stay local in Renwick working at Greens Food Market farming and gas stations while others attend junior college in Eagle Grove and study at Morningside Grinnell.
Fourth grade science class tests limestone and ginger ale to show cave formation. Students review sentence types and practice paragraph writing. Social studies field trip to the Northwest Rain Forest prompts interest in logging careers. Wendie Nerem and Michael MecPeak birthday treats. Mrs Sam Nerem and Scott visit Monday.
The teachers' reception occurred Thursday evening at the Renwick school building. Rev Sampson opened the program, with group singing by Mrs Donald McGowan and accompaniment by Mrs Eddie Bygness. Supt Wittmer performed two numbers, Marilyn Lerdai played flute, and a ladies' trio sang two songs. A reading titled Music and Medicine drew audience response, followed by a ministers’ skit. Afterward, attendees received lunch group tags and teachers supervised each group.
In the kindergarten class the students enjoyed stencil painting and learned a new poem about an apple and songs about a kitten. Bulletin boards show a vegetable picnic and Little Red Riding Hood drawings while the children practice name recognition. Scott Brayton's mother visited the room Wednesday afternoon.
