Gulf passenger train No. 1 was robbed near Twin Mountain Colorado by two masked men. They stopped the engine, held the crew at gunpoint, blew open the express car safe, and fled. A Folsom posse pursued the robbers after news reached investigators.
A gas explosion in Broad Ripple near Indianapolis destroyed four buildings, killing six and injuring thirty. The blast swept a grocery and adjacent shop, collapsing walls and tossing rescuers among burning debris. Gas from a line in the street cellars caused the disaster. groceryman Pins Gresh died trapped beneath the ruins.
The Kansas state board of agriculture released an official crop estimate showing an average yield per acre and a total crop of 265,077,289 bushels, down from last year, with poor weight and quality due to recent dry hot winds. Acreage reached 8,989,000, the largest in state history, despite the disappointing yield.
Reports from Nicaragua suggest Japan is negotiating with the diet of the Greater Republic of Central America in San Salvador to build a separate canal route. Aeronaut Stevens of Toronto reports success testing his new gas generator for balloon travel and plans to depart for the Klondike late this month. He also says he will attempt a rescue of Andree if his experiments prove successful.

In a separate incident H Russell Ward, linked to a California elopement, dies after leaping from a moving train near Wheatland Iowa. coroner calls it accidental.

Notable figures include cattle 2.50 to 5.50, hogs 0.00 to 5.00, wheat No 2 9 2 to 1.04, corn 18 to 35 cents, oats 7 to 20 cents, butter 1 6 to 20 cents, eggs 10 to 17 cents, and potatoes 6 8 to 6e per bushel.
A catastrophic coal dust explosion at the Sunshine Mine near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, left twelve miners dead with rescuers still probing the mine as crowds gathered outside. The Sunshine Mine, owned by Colorado Fuel and Iron, suffered horribly mutilated bodies recovered and a continuing response from rescuers.
Brussels police arrest German Gustav Dankenspieck on suspicion of involvement in a plot to kill Emperor William. Authorities described the suspect as detained for inquiry and bomb-plot connections are being investigated.
