Fortnightly Club Meeting At Roy McGurry Home

The Fortnightly Club met at Roy McGurry’s home south of town on October 2. Mrs. L. Miller read an article on "Rogue of France" and "The Great Green Memorial" and Mrs. Ray McGurry and Mrs. Sam Meurer had the most correct answers, with Mrs. Sian Klassie scoring lowest. First prize was a box of candy and the booby prize was an all dry, sucker. Husbands and children joined for supper served cafeteria style, and the evening featured cards and a general good time.

Young Forger Fleeing Toward Colorado After Check Fraud

A young man named Gordon forged a $60 check on Frank Chamiers at La Verne, securing $10 before leaving town. Officers traced him to Renwick where he vanished. Authorities suspect he will head home to Colorado for a warm reception. If captured, he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

The Junior class meets several times weekly for the class play and declamatory readings. A senior party was hosted by Miss Ruby Egenes on Wednesday. Lyceus tickets at high school for 1.76 each. Carnival at the skating rink Saturday night proceeds to the R H W Athletic Association. Boys and girls teams played Linn Grove Friday. girls lost 28 30 after a 12 12 first half and 22 22 at half. Renwick Koya beat Linn Grove 24 10 27. Wanson starred for Linn Grove with several long baskets. girls to play Linn Grove at Rolfa soon.

Pioneer matriarch Mrs Lorenda Martin dies aged 95

Mrs Lorenda Martin, born June 2 1824 near Moira New York, died October 20 1889 at her daughter’s home in Renwick after a long pioneer life. She married Martin in early adulthood and raised seven children, with descendants living in Iowa and beyond. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Nicholson with a male quartet providing music. interment at Elmswood Cemetery.

Victory Buttons for Honorably Discharged Soldiers

Veterans with honorable Army or Navy discharges may obtain Victory buttons by presenting discharge papers to the Home Service Secretary in the Finch Block over Hubbard's drug store in Unmboldt Iowa. Papers are forwarded to a recruiting officer in Omaha who will return the papers and button. Soldiers may also receive a certified copy of their discharge upon request.

Renwick High School Carnival at the Skating Rink

Renwick High School hosts a big carnival at the skating rink Saturday night in November. Booths sideshows and games will be on offer with proceeds going to the R. H. S. Athletic Association. Everyone is invited to attend.
