Appeal Filed in Renwick Bus Fatality Compensation Denial

Widow of Rex Simpson appeals a state industrial commission ruling denying compensation in the Renwick school bus crash case near Mason City. The hearing before Ralph V. Woodcock occurred March 31, with a May 14 decision granting burial expenses and child support later reversed by the commissioner. The dispute centers on whether Simpson was an employee or independent contractor and the school board’s authority to contract transport. Seven killed in the auto-train crash included top teachers and the bus driver.
