Adopt New System of Car Numbering in Iowa Counties

Iowa counties adopt separate license numbering for 1922. Humboldt County receives county number 51 and plates 51-1 to 51-8000. Wright County uses 99 with 4500 plates, Kossuth County uses 60 with 8600 plates. County treasurer issues plates as fees are paid, ensuring rapid delivery.

Ex Well Kills Himself William Carter at 22

William Carter aged 22 shot himself with a pistol while playing with friends near Hum bolt last Saturday. Neighbors heard two gun reports. William had served three years in the late war, was wounded and gassed, and suffered epilepsy. It remains unclear if the death was accidental or intentional, with probable accident cited.

Mail Routes to be Inspected by Postmaster

Postmaster order requires all postmasters to inspect each mail route twice yearly in October and April. Report road conditions and mail boxes, noting patrons failing to meet box requirements, paint boxes with patron names, place on right side of road for carriers, and compel immediate compliance.

Senate ratifies peace treaties with Germany and Austria

The Senate on Tuesday approved the peace treaties with Germany and Austria by a 66 to 20 vote, eight over the two-thirds requirement, following recommendations from the foreign relations committee. A similar treaty with Hungary was ratified, completing the immediate postwar program with the former central powers. Both Germany and Austria have accepted and ratified their pacts, with Hungary expected to follow soon.

Armistice Day Celebration Plans Completed in Renwick

Committees completed plans for Armistice Day with a 1 PM start on school grounds featuring a band concert American Legion drill and basketball games. A 6 PM communal picnic supper follows. If weather fails outdoor events, the schoolhouse opens and evening program moves to the Vernon Theatre with Capt. Frank Lund as speaker.

Surprise Birthday Party for Frank Ward at Ward Lockwood Home

Mrs Effie Lockwood hosted a October 17 surprise UL a stag party for her brother Frank Ward. Twenty five invitations went out. Guests met at Mark Carter Restaurant then moved to the Ward Lockwood home where Roy Stickle presented Frank with an auto robe. Lively conversation followed a two course luncheon. Guests departed with wishes for more happy birthdays.
