A devastating blaze swept through Windsor Nova Scotia destroying the old town. In six hours a north easterly gale aided the flames, leaving nearly 3 060 homeless and about 3 500 residents displaced or seeking shelter with neighbors or in Halifax tents. The fire overwhelmed local fire services and prompted help from outside.
Charles A Dana editor of the New York Sun died at his home in Geneva Long Island after a prolonged illness. He had been ill for months with liver cirrhosis and passed away quietly with family at his bedside following a brief collapse. He was sixty years old.
The Chicago subtreasury has seen large silver shipments to central Western banks for four weeks, averaging half a million dollars weekly. Despite new coin shipments, vault stock stands at 3 million, $1 million below the normal. Daily demand typical at 30 thousand, but recent months reached up to 125 thousand. Assistant Treasurer Phelps cites the Western wheat crop and prior silver shortages as causes.
Warren Reynolds eighteen year old son of Ira Reynolds treasurer of Wade Park Banking Company and Case School student Cleveland was killed Monday morning while duck hunting. He was with Leslie Stair and William McClure two felion students. Stair attempted to shift guns in the boat and a discharge occurred injuring Stair and McClure.
