CBS Radio star Mina Betty Furness will appear at the Iowa Dairy Conference at the Hotel Savery in Des Moines. The program Ask Betty Furness is sponsored by the American Dairy Association and airs questions reflecting everyday problems from coast to coast. The two day event runs October 20 and 27 with meetings of several Iowa dairy groups.

The Hawkeyes meet Northwestern Wildcats at 1 20 pm Saturday in a Homecoming showcase. The 1984 Homecoming marked a Hawkeyes win 28 20. The Homecoming dance features Ralph Flanghan’s Orchestra at Town Memorial Union 8 30 pm Saturday. A thirty foot monument to growth, built by engineering students, will soon be finished near Old Capitol with brick damage from Herky and Herriette.

Deadline Nears For Coast Guard Cadet Appointments
The Coast Guard Academy seeks applicants meeting height weight and vision standards. Selection for a four year program leads to a Bachelor of Science and a commission as Ensign. Deadlines and required coursework include high school seniors must be unmarried and 17 by July 1, 1967 with specified math and English units. Competition is nationwide with tests conducted by the College Entrance Examination Board.

Newly Planted Shade Trees Need Winter Protection
Newly planted shade trees may suffer trunk damage if not protected during winter. Injury often appears on the southwest trunk side, especially for trees planted in the last two to three years. Protective wraps from garden centers, such as paper tree wrap, burlap bags, feed tags, or aluminum foil, can prevent damage. Some maples show injury for years, but protection now is simple and effective.
Dedication of New Bridge Scheduled for October 27
The Iowa State Highway Commission reports paving of the Iowa approaches to the LeClaire bridge is completed and opening to traffic is scheduled for October 27. The bridge will carry Interstate 80 traffic between Town and Illinois, with only asphalt shouldering remaining on the approaches.
