The BOBCAT staff reviews a year of high school journalism across 37 BOBCAT SCRATCHES issues and six BOBCAT TALES totaling 3 00 column inches. Highlights include the boys basketball team winning the Little Nine Tournament, Division I ratings at contests, assemblies, honor rolls, homecoming, Chips of Charter, and recognition of 18 graduating seniors.
Boone Valley High School students completed the school year with semester tests. No regular classes were held. Students took hour long exams in each subject with an hour of study hall before testing.
Debbie Schneider celebrated her birthday and treated the morning class with treats on Friday May 10. Visitors included Mrs Schneider Jeff, Mrs Trask, and Mrs Spellmeyer in the kindergarten room last week.
The seventh and eighth graders held a skating party at Eagle Grove on Friday with a planned weiner roast at Mrs Henrys home that rain canceled. Chaperones included Mrs Bob Fisher and several others.
The page lists the staff of STAFE with Mrs Sunner as Editor in Chief and Sharon Hansen as Associate Editor. It also names the Sports Editor and editors for music and other departments, followed by a long roster of reporters including Shirley Ampston Marvin Cameron Mary Ron Cole Joanne Espe Judy Gillespie and many others.
Norman Lee brought a cocoon to school and it hatched into a striking Acropia moth. Second graders performed puppet shows for the class, while Mrs Hesse visited the fourth grade on Wednesday. Twenty students achieved perfect spelling.
The first grade tumbling program planned for year end is cancelled due to lack of time and facilities. Mrs Rossman's homemaking class visited on May 15 for those who missed the first observation. Curt Palmer became ill in school on Monday and Toni Hooton also missed that day.
The fifth grade class staged a noon May 15 surprise party for Mrs Swanson in her classroom. Students shouted and sang Happy Birthday as she entered, then served Kool-Aid and cake. Teachers helped with the secret and gifts included necklace bracelet and carving set.
In third grade a tie occurred between girls and boys in earning dental cards. Winners will host a party for the losers due to the tie. Students finish by tidying books and making paper animals for class projects. Janet Akiye was absent this week.
The staff expresses gratitude to teachers editors and community members for their support in reporting school news throughout the year. Special thanks go to Editor Wayne Christofferson Sharon Hansen Linda Huntley and Adelle Jensen for their space patience and sports reporting efforts.
The Boone Valley Junior-Senior Banquet was held May 11 in Renwick gym. Faculty and students gathered under navy blue and silver stars with a stairway to the stars theme. The program featured welcome by Bruce Wigans, remarks by Dave Biesemeyer, songs, a senior year recap, a floor show, and dancing.
The writer expresses pride in Boone Valley High journalism staff and underclassmen. She thanks Editor Sharon Hansen adviser Mrs Sunner and student leaders Kay McGowan and Joanne Espe. She notes hard work cooperation and rewards ahead for freshmen and medal winners.
Mrs and Mrs Duane Anderson hosted Sunday visitors in Clarion. Numerous guests from Goldfield Minneapolis Humboldt Forest City Earlham and Des Moines joined meals and social visits at local homes. Other gatherings included birthday help in Algona and a Trumpette Bridge Club meeting.
Sixth grade students presented a music program on MWWE featuring Paul Wanken as announcer. Performers included dane Cule Were You There Gail Davidson Susanus Beverly Hoveland Dreaming Lyle Cameron Ellis Macha with advertisements by Robert Bensfield Philip Hefty Red Hiver Valley Kathleen Anderson Melody In F Marvin Hoffman Battle Hymn of Republic Marilyn Schmits Lavone Vela and guest Mrs Kepper attended.
Six puppet plays were performed by second graders for parents and older students last week. Casts include The Bear And The Fox with Jimmy Ellinger and Darlene Thompson, The Christmas Surprise led by Sharon Hesse, and The Shipwreck featuring Terry Dobbs and Steve Lune.
Sunday social roundups show numerous guests at homes in Estherville Eagle Grove and Kanawha. Families including Hice Schipull Thompson Lundy Wergeland and Skive hosted or attended gatherings with relatives and friends across Iowa towns.
