Injured In Auto Crash On Way To See Daughter

Lester Carlson of Pecahontay Wie was seriously injured last Friday when his car left state highway No. 10 south of Hardy. Mrs Carlson suffered a cut on the head but was only bruised. Braden Stoaker, a Hardy mail carrier, rescued her from the ditch and she was taken to Humboldt. She was en route to Vernon Consolidated School for a picnic where her daughter, Ruby Carlson, teaches.

Decoration Day Program at Luni Cemetery Service Highlights

A local Decoration Day program at Luni Cemetery begins at 9 80 am with graveside decoration and music by the band. Rev J A Hurley delivers invocation, Lawrence Larson gives Gettysburg Address, and honored dead names are read. Vernon Cemetery follows at 11 am with invocation by Rev J J Reenta, an instrumental number, address by Rev R B Cook, honored dead names read, benediction by Rev Laurence Sohl, and firing squad taps.

Helen Wendell and Emmet Packard Married in Hum boldt

Miss Helen Wendell and Emmet Packard united in marriage last Sunday at the Congregational church parsonage in Humboldt with Rev. Thomas Lutrun officiating. Attended by Mr and Mrs Clarence Erwin, they spent a few days at the Erwin home and were the yiblims of a charivari Tuesday night. Emmet, son of Mr and Mrs Will Packard, is a prospect from the community now working at Maquoketa. The bride resides at Maquoketa and has taught at Vernon consolidated school.

Friday Night Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary Observed

A gathering at the Wendell Friday home north of Rerwick celebrated the twenty fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Friday. About twenty one guests joined in a noon dinner. Irwin Friday traveled to Humboldt to bring grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Friday and relatives Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Sadderis for the celebration.

Three Calves Stolen From J I Peer Farm

Three calves averaging about 200 pounds each were stolen Tuesday night from the J I Peer farm north of Renwick. Footprints show calves lifted over the fence and loaded into a truck on Highway No 60 while the Peer family slept.

Poppy Day Observance Ready Across Nation May 25

Preparations for Poppy Day proceed as volunteers ready the red paper flowers. Disabled World War veterans in Des Moines crafted about 500 poppies, each paid one cent, with ten million produced this year to fund welfare for veterans and their families.

New Boone River Bridge and Road Near Completion

The Boone River west of Goldfield shows a nearly finished channel created for a single bridge on the new highway No. 10 section. The bridge is nearly complete and the road extends one mile north on highway No. 60 to link with the new No. 10 segment extended west of Goldfield, with grading already done.
