Burr M Packard dies Thursday morning May 18 1961 at his Renwick home. Funeral services set for May 20 at 2 p.m. at Hake Funeral Home. Community club notes recount lodge and club activities across Renwick and nearby towns with Mother’s Day programs, readings, and breakfasts hosted by local groups.
The Renwick churches list services led by Rev. B. L. McDonald and Rev. Norman Johnson with Sunday school at 9:45 to 9:48 a.m. Morning worship at 11:00 a.m. and additional events include a Friday May 29 conference and Pentecost Festival. Confirmation classes and choir practices are scheduled.

Richard Gimer son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Gimer was tapped May 4 on Central Campus for Cardinal Key a senior men's honor society recognizing leadership service character and scholarship. Ceremonies were by Motor Board and Cardinal Key with a reception for new members and parents in Memorial Union Oak Room.
Mrs Howard Dhsch hosted the Renwick Woman's Club with 16 members present. A letter of thanks from the County Superintendent for a five dollar gift to the Special Education class was read. A mobile unit for tests will be in Renwick on May 24. The Friendly Neighbor clan met with 12 members and one visitor, Mrs Raymond Larsall, with Mrs Elmer Kubly teaching “Writings about Mother's.” A tray lunch followed. Mrs Virgil Tate is in Rochester hospital. Mr Tate and family visited Sunday.
Davie William Stansbury infant son of Mr and Mrs Callen Stansbury of Renwick was baptized Sunday at Lake Lutheran church. Sponsors were Mr and Mrs Albert J Hanson of Thorpe.

Glenn Emmpert pastor announces Sunday School helpers and a 6:30 p.m. worship service with a Monday rehearsal for choir and attendees.
The St. Paul Lutheran Church announces Pentecost Festival worship led by Pastor Norman Johnson. Sunday School begins at 10:30 a.m. A Junior Mission Band meets Thursday May 18 at 7:30 p.m. Senior Confirmation class is Saturday at 9 a.m. and a Turner Confirmation class Saturday at 1 a.m.
Boone Valley Schools presents its fifth awards assembly Friday afternoon May 19. The program includes Concert Band and High School items, awards for freshmen to seniors, comments by Edwin Hebner, and honors in football basketball track baseball instrumental music vocal music speech journalism Spitzer honor roll and citizenship.
Janet Lynne Hansen daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Hansen of Goldfield is a Senior at BYHS. She is active in office practice government home ec and speech with interests in sewing bowling dancing and writing letters. She attends United Presbyterian Church and participates in Glee Club mixed chorus FHA and the annual staff. After graduation she plans to study at ATB in Des Moines starting June 12.
State Representative Ray Cunningham of Story County will deliver the Boone Valley High School commencement address on May 24. A 1919 WWI veteran and former YMCA secretary, Cunningham was elected to the Iowa General Assembly in 1956 and chaired the Schools and State Educational Institutions committee. His speech title is Inner Man And The Outer Space.
Judy Ann Johnson earned valedictorian honors for the 1961 class with a grade point average of 5.34 based on four years of high school work. Penny McCurry was salutatorian with a 3.61 GPA. Both students are praised for their hard work and dedication.
Graduation exercises for the Eighth Grade will be held in the Vernon bulking auditorium on Friday May 26 at 8 pm. The featured speaker will be Mr Richard Nystuen Guidance Director for Humboldt County. He will speak on The Count Down. The evening opens with a Junior Band concert at 7 40 followed by the Processional.
Benediction closes the service with a recessional by Loren J. Schiputl President Board of Education and The Rev Norman Johnson. Instrumental Ensemble provides music as graduates participate in the ceremony.
Memorial Day program details include grave decorations by Boy Scouts and children, wreath placements, prayers by Rev Norman V. Johnson, firing squads, taps, and communal prayers. Sites at Park Bridge and Vernon Cemetery feature color guards, school bands, and multiple speakers honoring departed veterans.
