American Legion Auxiliary hosts a Poppy Poster contest with a Window display for grades 4 5 and 6. Winning posters will be shown at BD & L Sundries. Poppy Day in Renwick is set for Saturday May 25. A flurry of local visits and gatherings follow through the weekend with many families hosting relatives and friends from nearby towns.

Baessler Directs Calhoun County Junior Band Festival

Keith Baessler served as guest conductor directing a mass band of about 233 junior high students from multiple towns at the Calhoun County Junior Band Festival held Friday May 10. The BV veteran director has led bands for 14 years with 13 earning division one roputs at contests. BV congratulates him on directing the BV band at Lytton.

Kerrigan to Speak at Des Moines Commencement

Jack Kerrigan program director of WHO TV Des Moines, a 33 year broadcasting veteran, will serve as commencement speaker. His long career spans WORX Davenport, WHO radio, and leadership roles in WHO TV programs. Kerrigan also leads choirmaster duties at St Ambrose Cathedral and activity with Broadcast Pioneers.

Kenneth Kolpin Named New Coach At BV

Kenneth Kolpin of Pomeroy signed to teach in Boone Valley Schools next year. He will coach high school football and track, Jr. high boys and girls basketball, and teach biology and science. Kolpin, a Westmar four year football letterman, is married with no family.
