Benwalaureate services slated for May 17 at Renwick Gymnasium. Public ceremony in the gym marks the event with community attendees and local organizers coordinating transport and accessibility. Expected participation from school officials and volunteers.

Rural Wass announces a Rural Women’s Day event with speakers including Herr, Abert from Ke ane Jhat Mach, Erwi Mes Car, Mrs Carl Flummig, Mey Walter Me Peak, Jim Clowes, Mrs Alvin Hansen, Fey Black, Mrs Haro Ya, and Mrs Hareld Klasie.
The BVHS community outlines graduation plans with 23 seniors set to receive diplomas at a 2 00 pm commencement in the Renwick auditorium. Baccalaureate services are scheduled for Sunday May 17 at 8 00 pm led by Rev Norman Johnson and Rev Laurite Streyffeler. Commencement speaker Ken Wells will address the class and the class key will be presented to Henry Eimers.
The Boone Valley Band is now called a wind ensemble, reflecting the settlers of Boone Valley being present at practices. Three eighth graders attend rehearsals as David Hobner Paul Gimursul Mark Hanson play trombone parts. The ensemble received two new music arrangements on May 4 for the commencement concert, with the program still undecided.
On Saturday May 2 a large group music contest in Allison Boone Valley drew seventeen other schools. Boone Valley High School band earned its second consecutive Division I rating as the only school to receive that top honor. The girls glee club also earned Division I. Division II ratings went to the boys choir and mixed chorus. Boone Valley groups performed at Wednesday night pre contest concert.
The Hardy WSCS met in Ye Tome with 22 members and two guests. Devotions were given by Mrs Marshall Clancy and Mrs Gored Rasmussen from Witnessing Through Service. The group voted to contribute $250 to Henry Methodist church budget and officers will be installed May 17. The next meeting will be at Mrs W OH Panneil’s home.
About 100 members of The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary are expected to meet in Algona on May 17 for the Sun District Spring Conference. The event includes Humboldt County and will elect district officers and select delegates to the National Convention in Dallas Texas during the afternoon. Legionaries and Auxiliary members are invited to attend.
Bruno Zaffina, artist and cartoonist, gave an hour long assembly for Boone Valley students on May 4, drawing a teacher and two pupils on stage. He used UV glow pigments for striking effects, shared life philosophy, and played folk music. It was the fourth such program this school year.
WSWS of the EUB Church held Guest Day on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs John Baumgartner and others as hostesses. The program featured an organ prelude, readings, hymns, a devotional, and a talk on Christian Social Relations. Fifty-five members and guests received potted pansies after the program, with several attendees listed by name.
Humboldt County farmers are urged to beware of cheap alfalfa seed. LE Everson of the Seed Lab warns germination may be as low as seven percent and purity poorer, vs high quality seed at 23 dollars per bushel. Everson advises using higher seeding rates or buying better seed, and a new bulletin Certified Alfalfa is available at the Extension Office.
Mr Palmer, coach at BU, plans a summer ball program for all boys who wish to participate. Mr Wilbur, girls basketball coach, will organize a softball team for high school girls. -H-
Des Moines physicist Dr Donald R Bianco led the design fabrication testing and instrumentation of the Beacon Explorer NASA satellite launched to study the ionosphere. The project involved multiple stages from conception to deployment and reflects significant contributions by the Des Moines research team.
The WSCS breakfast at the Methodist church on May 6 drew a large crowd. Officers listed include Mrs Harold Van alts, Mrs Millard McPeak, Mrs Denali Clowes, and many others serving as treasurers secretaries and in various committees. Guests and visits from Lakota, Mason City, Swea City and Corwith filled the weekend social calendar with dinners and family gatherings. Dennis Knight of Goldfield and Debie Smith of Thor visited relatives, while travel companions and relatives shared in ongoing home updates and seasonal visits.
Iowa farmers can improve corner safety by diverting half an acre in the corner of a cornfield at intersections. Safety specialist Norval Ward suggests measuring 210 feet along the fence from the corner posts and drawing a diagonal between joints to yield about half an acre. The practice may qualify as diverted acreage under the 1964 Feed Grain Program. contact your ASC office for details.
