The Vernon Farm Bureau met Monday at the Vernon schoolhouse with talks on the REA program by Henry Lesning and on Commercial Fertilizer by Tom Hammer, plus several musical selections. Later, Mr and Mrs Loren Reed and Diana of Eagle Grove visited George Rice’s. Mr and Mrs Martin Johnson and family of Bode were guests at Francis Krause’s for Milton Johnson and Mrs Krause’s birthdays. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Luchsinger and daughter visited Ole Carlson’s Saturday evening, and Mr and Mrs Robert Nelson and family were Wednesday evening callers.

Hardy Gazette Highlights Student Work and Tests

The Hardy Gazette notes sixth graders studied central European countries and fractions while seventh graders covered democracy, leaders, percentages, graphs, and the eighth grade explored Washington era foreign policy and geometry. Six week tests approach next week with perfect spellings by Dean Nervig, Marilyn Pardon, Lois Larsen, Virginia Cleveland, and Roberta Cleveland. Georgia had a birthday Wednesday and treated the class to candy bars as spelling accuracy slipped slightly.

First and Second Graders Present Readings and Plays

The week featured storytelling and performances with first and second graders reading and singing. Stanley Madson, Josephine Marsox, Tony Andersen, and Mrs Skive read aloud while second graders acted in Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Beaty. Kindergarten groups joined with a story and game. Stanley Madson had a minor accident but recovered. All first and second graders achieved 100 percent in spelling on Friday.
