Postal Rules In Effect April 15

Postmaster Anna Figh reports readers of the Helmyink will see many changes in postal rates effective April 15. Increases aim to fund salary raises for postal workers, including a two cent postage for mailing and reply cards, regardless of printed or written matter. The third and fourth class reforms unify weight limits up to eight ounces, with new rates per two ounces and parcel post adjustments. Insurance, COD, and registration fees shift modestly, with foreign rates remaining as before. The piece ends with a stray, unfinished aside about two-dollar bills and a midwestern official.

The Lazy Husband and the Open Season Costs

Fragmented, satirical clippings discuss a South Carolina law on supporting families and punishment for laziness, with odd inserts about gasoline prices, aging, misused quotes, and social mores. It rails at inflated costs, warnings about automobile fatalities, and humorous jabs at marriage, chicanery, and public life.
