Voters will decide on a mill tax to fund Renwick's band at the upcoming town election. Supporters say the community should share the burden and note donations from Lusineus families and other citizens. A no mill tax would shift costs to business owners and reduce overall funding for the band.
The Fortnightly Club held its annual business meeting at Mrs W Miller's home with Mrs Sam Maurer as president and officers elected. Midland Chautauqua talk by Garfield man Kennedy followed a fine luncheon. A March card party at Mr and Mrs S C Maurer's raised prizes for Mandames Maurer and others. St Patrick's Day refreshments completed the event.
Clarence McFarland declares his candidacy to succeed himself as Humboldt County Auditor. He cites long service since boyhood in county work, previous appointment to replace Munger Osmundsen, and a reputation as a capable accountant with a solid office team. He notes North Dakota bank stint and broad local acquaintance.
J. B. C. Club The Jolly Birthday Club met with Mrs. Alice Yanney on March 17. Eleven members attended along with Mrs. Tee and Mrs. Merson. Leader Mrs. Haltingstad planned a three part program featuring prizes won by Mrs. Tillie Palmer and Mrs. Lucy Simpson. A two course luncheon followed as guests hoped to celebrate many more birthdays.
State inspector for consolidated schools Mr. Geo A Brown visited Vernon Consolidated School and commended its four year high school, noting millage of 4.4 under state averages. He praised growth with 68 percent higher attendance than two years ago and thanked local officials for their sacrifice and work while urging community support.
