Wedding of Miss Lantow and Walter Wiederstein at Renwick Church

Miss Roberta Marcella Lantow and Walter W. Wiederstein wed in a candle light ceremony at Emanuel Evangelical church Renwick. The event featured a satin gown with Chantilly lace and orange blossom tiara, a reception at the Fort Dodge Women’s Club, and guests from Audubon Des Moines Ankeny Sumner Sumner Fort Dodge and Lisbon. The bride is the Rev F J Lantow’s daughter and the groom is son of L F Wiederstein. The couple will reside in Audubon Iowa.

The public school at Thor was closed last Monday until an influenza epidemic abates. About forty of the enrollment around 100 are ill. Public gatherings in Thor were postponed and town illness spreads.

Renwick Iowa man Christian Rasmussen dies at 76

Christian Rasmussen of Renwick Iowa died March 6 1989 at age 76 after bronchial pneumonia and heart disease. Funeral services were held at his home and Baptist church with Rev E F Thompson. burial in Vernon cemetery. He was born September 12 1862 in Langeland Denmark and emigrated to the United States in 1881. He and Matilda Larsen married December 24 1882 in Goldfield Iowa and lived in Eagle Grove before settling on a farm near Renwick. He was a longtime Baptist, father of Louis Fred and Mrs Henry Bram, grandfather to 16 and great grandfather to 9.

Men's Community Club Meets Monday March 13 at Schoolhouse

The next meeting of the Men s Community club will be held at the schoolhouse on Monday evening March 13. Rev W C Cleeworth of Hampton will be the speaker. The program includes high school sextette numbers and a couple of solos. Dinner serves at 7 o clock. All men and young men are invited.

Four Named as Candidates for School Director Election

The annual school election on Monday March 18 will elect two directors for three years to replace A. D. Gimer and H. D. Black. Leo Mimbach and Henry Eggerth have also filed as candidates with the school board secretary.

County Spelling Bee Scheduled in Dakota City Saturday

The Humboldt county spelling bee will be held on Saturday March 18 at the court center in Dakota City. LeRoy Beebe will represent Renwick school. The state contest will be in Des Moines on April 22 and the national contest in May in Washington DC. Mrs F E Thompson and Mr and Mrs Ernest Eggerth attended the funeral of Mrs Laura Engebrit son, 89, at Bode yesterday afternoon.

Twenty One Years Ago Items From Renwick Times 1918

Abner Thompson returned home from Camp Dodge last Friday. Nellie Thiel visited from Des Moines for a few days. The Fortnightly club met with Mrs. M C Rockwood. Howard Bogard moved to the farm vacated by A L Brown. Mayme and Raymond Rier visited from Clarion. Mrs L E McDirmid stayed with her mother Mrs Hawkins at Dakota City. Local fishermen fear the fish will be fed up on Vene Packard’s hogs and won’t bite this spring. Mr and Mrs P H Thiet celebrated their 25th anniversary last Friday. Vene Packard lost a thousand dollars worth of pork last week as nine hogs went through the ice. Mr and Mrs John Schneider accompanied Miss Laura Norder to Chicago for training. Ralph Anderson injured his hand reranking a gas engine after the crank slipped. Several hundred sacks of flour were brought back to dealers by those who had more than allowed. When Uncle Sam stacks a 5000 dollar fine on anything he gets results. The Renwick Womans club met with Mrs M D Carter. The club passed a resolution to not serve lunch at regular meetings and asked others to cooperate in the food saving effort.

Massie and Klassie Farm Implement Auctions Planned

S H Massie will hold an annual auction sale of farm implements on March 12. H Klassie moves the annual sale to March 18 at the Klassie garage causing a delay in setup. New and used implements, accessories, household goods and some good horses are listed with John Reikens and Chris Uhrenhopp as auctioneers.

Local Cribbage Players Hold First Tournament

Local cribbage players held their first tournament at Selgelid's cafe on Monday evening. Dr. A. Hy Stafford won first prize with 1197, Myron Collins was second at 1192, and Alvin Engstrem took third with 1179. The event may become a weekly feature with occasional specials. Some players have joined from Eagle Grove and the Eagle Grove group is welcome here.

500 Club Entertained At Raymond Gorrells

Mr and Mrs Raymond Gorrell hosted their 500 club at home last Friday evening. High score prizes went to Mrs Louis Heitland and M M Green, with Verne Harris taking the traveling prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Attending were Mesdames A H Stafford George Lateh George Hoffman Walter McPeak Glen Martin and Chas Trask at an Eastern Star school.

Evangelical Church of Pastor F.S. Lawton invites worshippers with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 9:00. Evening services follow at 7:33. Farewell Party At Martins For Miss Doris Thompson

A farewell party was held Friday evening at the home of Mrs Susie Martin in honor of Miss Doris Thompson. About 25 friends attended the event with games and refreshments. Miss Thompson will move to Waeverly Sunday to begin work at the Northwestern Rail Telephone company office.

SOS Bridge Club Luncheon at Mrs Klassie Home

The SOS Bridge Club was entertained yesterday afternoon at a luncheon hosted by Mrs S H Klassie. Tables were decorated with St Patrick favors. After lunch bridge was played at three tables with prizes won by Mrs L W Fleming, Mrs Dean Nellis, Mrs A H Stafford, and Mrs W A Long.

Mr and Mrs Lee and others visited at David Crawford home in Hsth erf ville last Sunday. Mrs Maggie Collins and Mary Jane Crawford joined Renwick visit. Donna Lee Nissen and Kara McGowan attended a Goldfield birthday party for Jack Stoakes. Art Gray of Bode will speak at the Renwick shipping association annual meeting at the Legion.
