Tough Job Beckons Cubs' Manager in Long History
Chicago Cubs struggled with recurring misfortune as Charley Grimm clung to his role amid doubts about the team’s ability to win pennants. The piece reviews past managers like Joe McCarthy and Rogers Hornsby, noting injuries, late-season collapses, and shifting rosters that haunted the club through the 1930s. It also touches on other sports notes including golfer Hagen and Vander Meer’s two no hit games, plus various baseball anecdotes and Beowulf-adjacent epic interludes.
