Mrs Kraft Dies After Long Illness In Renwick

Anna Wilhelmina Holek Kraft, born July 13, 1870 in Holstein Germany, died June 3 1931 at age sixty years ten months twenty days in Renwick after heart troubles. She emigrated in 1882 to Scott county Iowa, later moved to Wright county, married E C Kraft Feb 4 1895. Twelve children born, ten survive. funeral held at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, burial Elmwood cemetery.

Mail Carriers Begin Annual Pig Census In Iowa

Rural mail carriers are distributing 80 000 cards to farmers and stock growers to report pig counts and compare with last year. The survey, run with the U S Department of Agriculture and Post Office, aims to gauge the spring pig crop and guide fall production plans. Leslie M Carl expects 10 000 cards returned. prior year results aligned with an 8 10 percent forecast error. About 12 800 000 pigs were sold in the state that year, with farm slaughter adding to the total.

Prizes Promised for Iowa Junior Fair at State Exposition

Over 15000 dollars in premiums will be awarded to farm boys and girls of Iowa at the 1931 Iowa State Fair Junior Fair. Nearly 2000 junior farmers from many counties will compete in eight days of demonstrations exhibits and contests from Aug 26 to Sept 4. Top prizes include Baby Reeves 4599 dollars, Pure Bred Beet Heifers 865 dollars, Pigs 2292.60, Home Economica Exhibited Demonstrations 2428 dollars, and more across livestock, crops, clothing, canning, and poster designs.

Alumni Banquet At Renwick High School Held Friday

Alumni banquet at Renwick High School gym Thursday evening featured themes of rainbow hues and roses with a three course meal. Speakers explored colors in turn and new officers were elected as about seventy attended including guests from Texas, Preston Iowa and Fort Dodge.

July Fourth Celebration Planned at Algona II

The Eighth Annual Fourth of July event under Kossuth County Fair Association aims for a full day of entertainment on the fair grounds. Highlights include a fireworks program, ball games on the new diamond, running races, a re finished Floral Hall dance floor with a first class orchestra, Aladdin Midway shows, and a new Grandstand with sanitary facilities. The association seeks strong community support to offset costs and make the day affordable for families at the shaded, scenic grounds.

Buck bike dazzles on Main Street show

McDougal unveils a unique bicycle nicknamed the buck bike. On Tuesday evening several riders demoed its off center axles causing the seat and handlebars to rise and fall like a bucking horse while bystanders watched and enjoyed the thrill without danger.
