The War Production Board reports the 671 million farm machinery and spare parts program for the year ending June 30 is 13 percent behind May 1. Accelerated production narrows the gap to 10 percent behind and combines have until September to meet quotas. May 1 output shows wasteful machinery 33.4 percent off, tractors and attachments 28.2 percent, barn equipment 23.8 percent, pumps and windmills 16.4 percent, wagons gears and trucks 16.5 percent, harrows 14.5 percent, cultivators 15.2 percent, dairy machinery 13 percent, seeding and fertilizing 11.8 percent and poultry gear 11.3 percent. Land values rise 15 percent for the year ending March 15 to 114 percent of 1917 14 level. One-third of sales financed by credit involved mortgages of 15 percent of sale price. average debt per acre on new farms about one fourth higher than two years ago. Large turnover reported. some operators selling after a few months, city buyers buying farm property as inflation hedge.
