A fatal accident near Gilmore City last Friday evening left Henry Studdard dead after being thrown and trampled by mules during a cattle drive. He died Monday from a fractured jaw and skull injury. Rev. Stanley of Des Moines College, visiting at the Baptist church, is a GAI veteran who helped search for the murderer.

Ford hits cream truck in oily street collision

Lon Overbaugh drove from a garage in a Ford and struck Henry Luchsinger’s cream truck amidships. Both vehicles were slightly damaged and cream smeared a segment of Main Street. A4 B Clark was blamed by some though Lon sought Mr. Clark first and found Henry instead.

Palimateer Seis Farm Sells East of Town for 300 An Acre

Ed Palmateer sold his farm east of town at 300 dollars per acre saying the price is about all the time he has before he passes away. He notes he could have gotten more but prefers an even outcome and mentions friends who might assist if he departs earlier than expected.

Dow Team Withdraws From Game With Renwick

No ball game Sunday as Dow team backed out of a use game with Renwick due to unavailable players. Dow officials notified Manager Spray the match was off. Next Sunday the team travels to Webster City for a scheduled game.

Officials from the department of agriculture report corn crops damaged over recent days as temperatures topped 100 in some areas. Southeast winds and heat caused widespread stress though scattered showers offered limited relief in parts.

Council Proceedings Special Meeting on Bids and Street Care

The May 15 1019 special meeting chaired by Mayor Tanek received bids for hauling and street work. The street and alley committee is to hire a street commissioner and a haulage contractor, with a grading contract invited. Notices will run in Humboldt Wright and Kosyuth county papers for two weeks, then in the local paper and each county paper before August 1. All members voted yes to adjourn.
