Heavy Rain Storm Strikes This Section Wednesday
A heavy rain storm struck this section early Wednesday morning dropping about three inches of water in a few hours. Drains could not carry the runoff flooding basements up to three feet. Water rose along Main Street and across sidewalks while gusty winds flattened oat fields. The storm was not general, with some spots from Renwick outward spared.

Chinch Bugs Damage Corn in Eastern Iowa Fields
C M Pickard of the U S Department of Agriculture and Dr G E Decker, Assistant State Entomologist, found chinch bugs hatched in many oat fields in eastern Iowa last week. Weather in the next ten days could shape the outbreak, with dry weather possibly advancing migration into corn. Dr C J Drake notes that dry conditions may kill grasses and push bugs into corn, with some cages showing up to 50 percent corn loss from adult bugs.
