Secretary of State pins $392000 shortfall on unpaid auto license fees amid a system blamed for evasion under a three year license. He cites delays, evasion, and law changes while urging county distribution to curb losses and ease collection. The gap, about $331,819 settles, prompts calls for active enforcement.
The chautauqua program concluded Sunday night with broad community approval. Musical numbers impressed attendees while some acts fell short. Notables Rev W S Johnson Hon Has kiel H Dyer Dr David W Fletcher and Dr George L Barker were well received. Dr Barker led union services at the tent Sunday morning and Ray Newton the magician performed capably. The Travers Wick Symphonic Orchestra delivered an excellent Sunday night concert. It is unclear whether Renwick will host chautauqua again next year.
Renwick defeated Kanawha in a lopsided match at home last Thursday afternoon with two umpires officiating. Renwick showcased superior speed and skill, leaving the local team overwhelmed and fielding their second string players or seeking tougher competition to keep the game engaging.
The Wild Rose Canning Club met on July 28 with Miss Amha Packard. Ten members and four visitors attended. Two new members joined, bringing total to twelve. Hostess provided refreshments. Next meeting set for July 12 with Miss Amy Carter.
Sheriff Davenport took Fred Kingman of Knox county Illinois into custody in Renwick on suspicion of stealing a diamond ring. Kingman denies the charge and is described as an Iowa resident who recently arrived in Renwick. The case is reported by Trumboldt Republican.
A sickly man seeking quiet in a small town store caused a brief disturbance before leaving for the street. The Algona Courier has changed owners, Earl D. Bradley acquiring the paper with his brother assisting in editing. The outgoing publishers are praised for building a strong local paper, and the new owner faces the challenge of maintaining the standard.
Clifford Olden of Hardy visited town on Saturday. Renwick residents Orris. French and Miss Johanna Anderson spent time here and with Renwick families. Rev. and Mrs Nicholson visit their children in Renwick. Mrs. N. M. Loobey visits sister Mrs Loretta Knox in Chicago. Grace Harvey visits Webster City. Mrs. J. M. Montgomery and Mary return from Rochester after surgery, improving. Chautauqua ad work distributed by Tressa Brink and others. Dr. Peppers in Des Moines for surgery at Methodist Hospital, recovering with Mrs Vest with him.
