Fred Engstrom was elected chairman of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors at their January meeting. He was elected in 1959 for a three year term representing Lake Vernon and Norway townships and took office in 1959. Mr and Mrs Engstrom and family live on a farm two miles north of Renwick.
Twenty five years of New Year Eve gatherings continue as couples meet at the Arlo McGowan home in Livermore. Attendees include Arlo and Mrs McGowan, Donald and Mrs McGowan of LeRoy Minnesota, Braden Stoakes of Goldfield, Wilbur Nissen, and Dr and Mrs Marion Carter of Austin Minnesota. Norma Long and Wilbur Nissen have attended all twenty five parties. Several guests joined other events around the gathering including a birthday party for Mrs Jim Yungelas and a 40th wedding anniversary for Mr and Mrs F L Jackson in Lytton Iowa.
Church notes announce worship service with theme The Unchanging Christ. Senior Youth Fellowship at 6 p m Thursday. Senior choir practice at 8 a m Saturday. Youth membership at 10 a m Saturday. Junior choir practice 2 p m Saturday. Methodist Men's meeting January 25. The Goodwill Truck arrives January 25. bring contributions to the parsonage garage. Sacks provided. Welcome to all services.
The announcement invites youth to a Saturday class themed The Unchanging Christ and notes a Wednesday Woman's Society meeting at 2 p.m. at Mrs Gudrun Anderton's home. A Goodwill truck will collect contributions Jan 2% and asks for church drop offs at the Lee Wilson home.
The Renwick Savings Bank held its annual meeting this week with 20 members present. Officers were reelected for another term. The bank’s annual report of condition is published in this issue for interested readers.
In Renwick two moves occurred last week. Elmer Schnetzer and family bought Sherrill Oppedahl’s home and Oppedahl moved and remodeled his farm house into a modern residence in the town’s south side. Harvey Lawson family moved from Hardy area to a newly completed ranch house near Walker Hardware. Sanford Anderson family moved into a large ranch home with a double garage in the town’s north.
Mr and Mrs Fred Bram of Venura welcome a daughter Cheryl Lynn born Sunday January 10 at Mercy hospital Mason City. She is granddaughter of Mrs Henry Bram of Renwick. Mr and Mrs Dale Parker announce a son, born January 7 at Hamilton County hospital Webster City, named Eadi son, with maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Ed Hilpipre of Eagle Grove.
Mandus Nelson visited Frank Berry of Badger in the Lutheran hospital in Ft Dodge. Friday Mr Berry submitted to surgery. He is a former Renwick resident.
Worship service Sunday and Sunday School readings listed along with Luther League Sunday at 7 p.m. Annual Congregation meeting scheduled Monday at 7 p.m. Anna Circle meets Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Carl Spellmeyer home. Choir practice Thursday at 7 p.m. Senior and Junior Confirmation classes Saturday morning.

Luther League January 14 at 8 pm and January 21 at 7 pm. Mission Band January 21 at 7 pm. Pastor's Circle at Lakota on Monday at noon. Notices include daytimes and locations.

Albert Morehouse outlines ongoing care costs for five Humboldt County polio patients with braces exams and rehab needs. He notes 300 dollar braces and 1.4491 dollar expenditures to date via the local chapter, mentions Salk vaccine and new research areas, and urges generous annual donations as the drive continues in Renwick.
In a boys basketball game the Boone Valley Bobcats defeated LaVerne 65 43 Friday night. Doug Roseberry led with 20 points, Ed Hefner grabbed 21 rebounds, and all five Bobcat starters scored in double figures as they built a 26 17 halftime lead and maintained control in the second half.
The Little Nine Tournament begins January 18 at 7 PM on the Corwith Wesley gym floor. Boone Valley girls face Gilmore City Bredgate with the winner advancing to a semifinal versus Corwith Wesley, who had a first round bye. Boone Valley boys seek revenge January 19 at Goldfield, with a semifinal berth against Trinity Rivera, as Boone Valley carries a 4 5 record and eyes the title after last season’s consolation crown victory over Goldfield.
Numerous local clubs met in January with varied topics and hosts. Ed Anderton hosted WSWS of the EU church discussing A Trek Into Africa. BTW club gathered at Mrs Engstrom’s home. KYN club met at Mrs Boyer’s. Fortnightly club hosted by Mrs Emil Goettsch with Civic Ethics topic. Royal Neighbor Lodge installed new officers at Mrs Marie Nissen’s home. Neighborhood Birthday Club observed a birthday with lunch. Esther and Ruth Circles held meetings with devotions and lessons. social card games and baptisms at Lake Lutheran noted. funeral services for an aunt attended by Mr and Mrs Terry Mitchell in Mattoon Illinois.
