Circulate petitions for Humboldt County road bonds election

Humboldt County considers a special election to authorize primary road paving bonds. A meeting at the Legion hall tonight features speakers from other counties discussing the issue. The county spent about $19,000 on roads last year and sent $82,000 to others, with the highway commission stating a 15 year repayment period and no extra property tax.

Klassie's Garage Robbed Again on Friday Morning

Thieves broke into Klassie's garage early Friday, stealing a $630 cash register containing about $4, a radio loud speaker and an auto heater. The 450 pound register was dragged to a trailer, later found broken open along a road near Hardy No. 10. Pete Saddlar's service station was entered but nothing taken. Authorities pursue the car used in the robbery and expect arrests in Wright county.

Mrs Bert Grant Dies At Emmetsburg Home

Mrs Lyda Grant aged 48 wife of Bert Grant died at the family home in Emmetsburg after about three weeks illness from heart trouble. Funeral services were held Friday Jan 2 at 2:30 PM at the Methodist church in La Verne. Survived by husband and five children, maiden name Lyda Smith, sister of Mrs Chas Noonan Renwick and Frank and Herbert Smith La Verne. Brother Carey of Whittemore Champion is mentioned.

Thumb Amputation After Axe Accident at Farm

Max Meyer suffered a severe accident Friday morning while butcher ing a beef. An axe deflected and severed his left thumb, which was amputated at Algona hospital. He returned home to Lu Verne on Sunday.

Hardy Auto Thief Arrested at Tipton

Tarry Williams formerly of Hardy was sentenced to one to fifteen years in the penitentiary on charges connected to stealing a Stoker car owned by Claude Stoher of Hardy. Williams disappeared October 18, was arrested in Tipton on forging charges, and later pleaded guilty to theft. The car was recovered at Clinton and returned to Stoher, with tools missing.

First National Bank of Titonka Closed by Regulators

The First National Bank of Titonka was closed December 25 by the National Banking Department after directors failed to meet examiner demands. Frozen real estate assets troubled the bank, with a $50,000 liquidity shortfall and $23,000 offered by directors. President Budlong and cashier H Anehot oversaw deposits around $200,000. Titonka Savings Bank remains solid. Receiver W C Pyle, once in charge of Hirst National, now liquidates Titonka Trust.
